Miles paid for any drugs Parker needed... he gave him brand new saxophones (which for someone who played pieces of iron with rubber bands on the keys was a lot), and many say he even slept with Parker's wife...
Kenny Dorham, annoyed, turned to Parker and asked him why he was playing with a square, talentless kid. Parker replied, "With Miles, I won the lottery, and besides, people come to listen to me!"
He immediately entered, money in hand, the board of directors of Columbia, deciding who should record and who shouldn't (many great trumpeters have had their careers ruined by this interference). Later, he monopolized the best musicians on the scene, paying them to play only with him. This had a detrimental impact on jazz. However, none of them returned these favors, so much so that one of Miles's grievances was that he was never called as a sideman by anyone (the only exception being a not-so-great record by Cannonball).

I played for years and met musicians who were very close friends of Parker: Tony Scott, Clark Terry, Barry Harris, and many others. The truth is that Miles, unlike the Black musicians of his time, was really very wealthy. His father was a dentist, the son of a rich heir, who, when Miles decided to move to New York, immediately bought him a luxurious house adjacent to 52nd Street. A very rare condition for a Black man. Parker, being the great drug addict he was, sniffed out the deal. Miles, being a great businessman, understood he could take advantage of this. Parker was hosted for a long time in the comfortable residence of Miles... and what can we say for someone who often slept on the streets or, if he was lucky, in taxis.

We eagerly await the ruling, Emanuele. Curiosity in certain cases borders on madness...

:P I'll come visit you one of these days; who knows, maybe Dad... Jokes aside, best wishes to you too, hope you have fun jos. I'm off to write a new review before Christmas when we're all nicer, hoping this time to reach the much-coveted top of the most appreciated reviews and not a miserable third place (damn Hal).

Josi, I see you're a bit taciturn in the comments these days. You haven't stopped taking morphine, have you? :P
