Great album by a band that has a lot to teach. It's definitely a must-have for those who appreciate a Metal sound heavily focused on melody, along with "Tales From The Thousand Lakes" and perhaps "Tuonela"; then only decline.

I don't really like classic Black either (often due to the shameful productions), but I really appreciate some bands that use Black by blending it with different styles, such as Solefald, or Arcturus, or even Bethlehem, whom I highly recommend, as they are able to effectively and powerfully combine Doom and Black.

Of course, if you think about it, Venom were really just incompetent buffoons; the historical value of their albums (the first ones) far surpasses their musical value. In reality, as musicians, they were not much; as artists, don’t even get me started. So they were good innovators, and their merit lies "only" in what came after. Just one year after the release of this album, Celtic Frost debuted, and while they operated within the coordinates set by Venom, they immediately established a quality level that is simply incomparable to that of their inspirators.

Well, it’s not a bad album, but it didn’t convince me much; the atmospheric component prevails too much over the musical one, resulting in a lack of impact. The previous albums are better (of a completely different quality, anyway). And then some "festive" tracks at the beginning of the album seem a bit like a joke, even though that’s typical of Finntroll.
