One Dimensional Man / Il Teatro degli Orrori 5 Questions to Pierpaolo Capovilla
Voto:
I only just now came across this mournful interview. It's not my intention to disrespect anyone, and I genuinely believe that Capovilla is a good person, as well as an excellent artist, but... I just can't get past his radical change. Hearing him say that the first Pino Daniele is second only to the "best De André"... well, folks, that's hard to swallow, especially coming from someone like him, who has surely brought more innovation than Pino Daniele, Vasco Rossi, or Gigi D'Alessio. I have only one image, a fragment, a memory: a guy sweating like crazy on stage while playing the bass, a guy who spits between verses. When I see him on TV with that “Interpol” quiff, I feel the absence of the "You Kill Me" video, where he’s dressed as an FBI agent, while Perissutti devastates the drums. But to each their own. Amen.

My heartfelt congratulations. This album deserves a lot. Every now and then, some crazy person decides to produce music like this, not giving a damn about all the garbage that has now penetrated to the core of what we used to call "underground." Well done.

I confirm Sfascia: they remain just as they were back then. I saw them in Milan on June 27th... terrifying. Signorelli hits even harder than in the days of the Swans and Unsane combined!!!! I even shook hands with Spencer as if he were the baker down the street.. people from another planet, from another universe.. men, as well as artists (and what artists..)!

I discovered it in 2008 and initially wanted to buy it. Then, one thing led to another and I didn't do anything about it.. if I feel like it in September, I'll buy it. Just for the cover.

I confirm, more than interesting album. Very refined sounds, surreal atmospheres. It's already captivating me. "Black Dunes" is scary..

Hi. Honestly, not my favorite album: Settle Down City is much more refined and math rock than this, but tastes are tastes ;). I see the comments are pouring in... but on the other hand, it's been like this for a long time on Debaser when there are interesting albums. Straightforward review and quite dignified.

I haven't listened to the album, and I believe it is fate that has led me to this wonderful and majestic review. Needless to say, that acrid smell of sea salt, the play of light expressed by the water, and the echo of the sounds you described flashed in my mind as if I were there too, next to that old man, behind you. The Mediterranean is an arcane, captivating, virtuous, and dark place all at once. You made me think of thousands of lived fragments, memories, sensations scattered across the frozen steppes and obscured by the frost of my mind. You made me see forgotten places of humanity, which I could only experience and admire with extreme ecstasy in Corsica and Sardinia (and I want to express this with a bit of presumption, only there). Magical lands, magical music. Unfortunately, not for everyone. In fact, fortunately. A sincere greeting, and allow me to express this: almost certainly, from my perspective, the most beautiful review I have ever had the honor of reading on this site. But what am I saying, this is not just a review. Here we go beyond that. Congratulations.

Thank you both, from the heart. I might be crazy Bartle, maybe I am, but initially, this record disappointed me greatly. Earthen to me is like water, every now and then I need to drink it. Then I understood: I was "reading" this album the wrong way, and I realized the visual power it expresses. Earthen is an album that you could say is "positive," while Icon is at the opposite pole. It almost seems influenced by Black due to the monotonous repetition of the notes, and this is something remarkable for me, because I have rarely heard a compositional structure of this kind (almost Scandinavian) elevated in such a way. Yes, I admit it, it’s a repetitive record, but it’s something of quality, and not little in my opinion.
