What to say, Nes? I was at the concert. For 7 years (7!!!), I hoped in my decaying heart that the end of the world would grant me some of my trivial little wishes, and in the end, it happened. By a hair’s breadth, I almost missed all of Roadburn (I was supposed to go... but then screw it, personal problems and all that..). What can I say? How can I express what you have already so virulently described?? Perhaps with a brief attempt: yes, Sleep practically almost brought down the Fillmore in Piacenza. Several times, I looked up, with fear and excitement in my heart, almost thinking that at any moment everything would come crashing down. Dopesmoker (though I like to call it Jerusalem) practically gave all the spectators a free MRI. Holy Mountain was devastating... as were all the others, not to mention From Beyond... which is one of the tracks I grew up with over these 7 years.. Al Cisneros, in Sleep mode, is even more badass than in Om (and at one point, he nearly knocked a random photographer off the stage who kept annoying him with flashes..) Matt Pike is a monster. Not of this planet. To conclude, Nes, a necessary clarification: Matt and Al rarely smoke cigarettes.. the ones that the stage sound engineer lit for Pike were very green cigarettes. And if you don’t believe me, go to this site (where I wrote until a few months ago, www.doommabbestia.blogspot.com) and look for the live report of Sleep at Roadburn 2012.. Basically, Al was asking the audience to offer him some weed to puff between songs.. These people are absolutely out of their minds.. but I will never stop thanking them and respecting them, because after 20 years, they have finally received the recognition they deserved. Peace.

Very good proposal, but I believe that European doom is no longer something easily definable. The United States, besides having clearly taken control of our continent, is also, so to speak, "commissioning" our genres, in the sense that many sludge-doom bands are becoming overly Americanized, or are born with that initial sound idea. I doubt we can expect mass revolutions in this regard (even though Roadburn 2012 gave space to a few but excellent "local" novelties). The big problem, and I have been sanding patience on this website for years in this regard, is that even the underground is becoming commercialized (rightly so, due to merit, of course) subjecting it to the risk of excessive conformity in sound (e.g., everyone uses the same identical pedals, plays the same identical riffs, buys the same tube amplifiers…). Let's hope we don't end up facing 200 copycat bands of Weedeater (who, among other things, I appreciate immensely!).

After six long years, I reply to Antmo telling him that the UFOs may not be Pink Floyd, but they are definitely jamming with Neurosis. Do your research, dear friend, do your research! ;)

Daniele Luttazzi Decameron: poltica, sesso, religione e morte (2007)

@Skeletron: this review was written before I learned how much Luttazzi had stolen from Hicks, Carlin, Rock, etc. It’s true, undeniable: Luttazzi copied; Luttazzi explicitly took from the best of these artists (Hicks, now... a genius). It is right to push for him to admit it publicly, and it’s equally right, out of respect for people like Carlin and Hicks, who have passed away and therefore cannot respond! I discovered that monster Bill Hicks only two years ago when many of you pointed out this treasure hunt nonsense he put on his blog. I appreciated Hicks’s extraordinary originality and incredible fighting spirit, unique, inimitable things. At the same time, though, I must say that if it weren't for Luttazzi, no one in Italy would have known Hicks and Carlin the way they are talked about now on forums, blogs, or elsewhere. This doesn’t mean that it’s Luttazzi’s merit; quite the opposite, but it is necessary to be realistic and admit that without those programs, no one would have discovered the theft, and thus, known the aforementioned legends. I write this comment because I’ve been mulling over Luttazzi for a while, and it was time to get it off my chest (especially since I am the author of this review). However, I still share a lot of what I wrote: in fact, aside from Guzzanti Corrado (the Scafroglia case), no one else made satirical programs in the Berlusconi decade... and Decameron, let me tell you, was needed... damn, it was needed...

As far as I'm concerned, excellent album; as far as you’re concerned: well done, great review, great proposal. Long live the King of doom and all his subjects!

Seen live. She is terrifying: inhuman screams, piercing distortions, and tattoos on every part of her body… he is a monster: he even replaced the drummer of Yob at Lo-Fi in Milan. A truly dynamic drummer. This doom and all its nuances… everyone mocks it, and then at any concert, you find yourself talking and joking with people like Mike Scheidt as if he were your next-door neighbor! It doesn’t surprise me at all that the number of listeners keeps growing… Great recommendation, good review!
