Horace Walpole Il Castello di Otranto
Voto:
Yes Runner, precisely Otranto in the province of Lecce. Gothic writers loved "exotic" settings (for the times) like Italy.
Carl Theodor Dreyer La Passione di Giovanna D'Arco (The Passion Of Joan Of Arc)
Voto:
A terribly expressive film, Dreyer must have done a great job casting to find faces that perfectly fit the characters. Superb direction, but the version of over 100 minutes that I saw, which was shown on "Fuori Orario," is somewhat of a "brick" that's difficult to digest in a single evening.
Savage Republic Tragic Figures
Voto:
Visceral, intense, and dark like few others. Although, as noted by others, the sound borrows quite a bit from earlier New Wave bands such as Joy Division, PIL, Killing Joke, or Suicide (at least for "On The Prowl"), the overall effect is genuinely fresh and strongly contradicts those who believe that New Wave had already peaked in the '70s.
The Raincoats The Raincoats
Voto:
"They don’t anticipate the riot girls as someone has written, because the riot girls, in comparison, are supermarket products, cellophane-wrapped and nicely packaged," especially since it seems to me that they had little or nothing of that "default anger" of many little groups from the '90s, and they inherited more from punk the roughness of the sound and the idea of 'do it yourself' than the aggression. At least that's the impression I've gotten from listening to the few tracks I know. If it's true that they've reissued this album, it would be great news.

Tim Burton La Sposa Cadavere
Voto:
A feast for the eyes even if the plot is a bit cliché. A good film, but compared to "Nightmare Before Xmas," the animation is more computer-generated and less "handcrafted," which doesn't work in its favor.
Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy
Voto:
This year for Christmas I'm debating whether to give Dad the thirtieth tie or "Chinese Democracy."
Gronge La Nave Dei Folli
Voto:
I had one of their records from '93, "Technopunkabaret," and I liked it so much that I'm happy I got rid of it on eBay for €7.5. Lyrics somewhere between cryptic and pseudo-engaged, almost recited and completely disconnected from the music, which was actually a mishmash pulling randomly from industrial, new wave, and punk. From what I know of them, they're to be avoided, but I honestly don't know if they did anything decent at the beginning.
