LA RECENSIONE

It's a poem printed on film "The Corpse Bride" by Tim Burton.

This time, the visionary genius tells the story of Victor, a young man who is supposed to marry his beloved Victoria, but something happens...

Victor is young, shy, insecure, so he decides to prepare his love and marriage proposal in a forest, alone, away from prying eyes. While reciting the fateful phrase, he places the ring intended for his beloved on a strange branch that slowly comes to life. The small branch was nothing but the finger of a bride brutally murdered, who, coming back to life, demands both Victor's heart and to be married.

Following in the footsteps of "The Nightmare Before Christmas," the entire film has the backbone of a delightful musical. The story is split between the real world and a strange underworld, the world of the dead, and here comes the genius: Mr. Burton chooses to use bright colors to describe the atmosphere of his cheerful dead who have fun with parties, dances, crazy jokes, and big feasts; it's a festive and welcoming environment, unlike that of the living characterized by very dark colors and tones.

In the end, everything is resolved in the best way, the murderer gets what he deserves, the two lovers marry, and the corpse bride finds peace, dissolving into a whirlwind of butterflies, with a touching image that makes the whole story magical.

Another peculiarity is that the protagonists resemble the actors who lent their voices to the characters. Victor is Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter is Victoria, and the corpse bride is Emily Watson, a trio close to the director, also featured in "Big Fish" in a cameo that recalls the melancholic atmosphere of the Corpse Bride.

The story is enjoyable, fluid and never heavy, and it's intriguing how the characters are conceived, their physical structure, and characteristics. It’s hard to draw from fantasy a myriad of characters totally different from each other, with the peculiarity that each pair is the opposite of the other (fat-thin, tall-short) and make everything come together with mathematical and harmonious perfection.

A highly recommended film for spending a romantic evening, perhaps on a rainy night.

Enjoy the movie everyone.
