Shinya Tsukamoto Tokyo Fist

Very good! Violence as a "waker of slumbering consciences" is undoubtedly the central theme of the film, which is also my favorite by Tsukamoto. One small note: between the two "Tetsuo," Tsukamoto also directed the trash-horror "Hiruko The Goblin."

The review is good even though there are a bit too many short sentences. The movie is a legend from my childhood; I remember my mother took me to the cinema (it must have been winter '84), and since we arrived late, we missed the initial minutes, so we caught up during the next screening, but I liked the film so much that I ended up watching it all over again. We left the cinema after three hours. That movie captivated me so much that I later read the book as well. The Moroder-Limhal soundtrack is also beautiful (neverending stooooooryyy ah a ah ahaaa...). My sentimental rating is obviously a 5, while the critical and cold-cynical adult rating would be a 3, so I’ll go with the middle ground, also because this film for kids has the merit of being "Made in Europe."

@ilpazzo: "Cannibal Holocaust" is fine, as it is realistic & unhealthy and definitely evokes a certain level of discomfort, but linking the term "extreme" to "Braindead" and "The New York Ripper" seems out of place to me because they are clearly entertainment films without pretensions, featuring effects that are too fake and paradoxical to be taken seriously by the audience. Nonetheless, I enjoy these films as well, but "extreme" in cinema is something else, at least for me.

@lux: well, I have to go by memory because I sold the record a few years ago... anyway, if I remember correctly, "Schizophrenia" had a rather sugary chant for my tastes and a guitar melody that, for some reason, reminded me of a slowed-down version of the Joy Division's "She's Lost Control." "Chatolic BLOCK," if I'm not mistaken, was a bit more "punk" and energetic, but it didn’t excite me either.

@Ghemison: I quite like "Evol" too; my criticisms were mainly directed at "Sister." Thanks anyway for the advice/encouragement.

I saw it the other night in the subtitled version of "Fuori Orario" that was reviewed. It's a good film for sure, even though it tends to repeat some of the same situations. Keitel, however, is superb.

I haven't seen the movie nor do I intend to, but I really wonder what the reviewer means by "extreme" splatter movie because it's not clear which films they're referring to. I want the titles!

Well, I've heard a lot about this but I've never listened to it; I stopped after the previous two works: the discontinuous yet appreciable "Evol" and the disappointing "Sister," a diluted No Wave with terrible singing and weak songwriting. More boredom than noise. On one hand, I’m curious to listen to this album, but on the other, I’m quite skeptical. The review is not very fluid and contains some bold statements, like that the post-punk trend would have derived from Sonic Youth.

An album recommended for those who think that only the majors release crap.

I never thought much of them. Anyway, I remember that "Break it down again" was a good song.
