But who ever said that the voice of SY should be "beautiful"? I just wanted to say that Moore has a weak and monotone voice, flat, that doesn't say anything to me. Even no wave singers weren't exactly very gifted (except maybe James Chance) but at least they were more incisive, more over the top, more "crazy," while Moore puts me to sleep. I like Kim Gordon though; she might imitate Lydia Lunch a bit, but I still find her expressive and effective. The only negative is that unfortunately she doesn't always sing.

Yes, "Bullet Ballet" didn't convince me either, nor would I say "Vital." Perhaps I should watch them again a second time to be able to judge.

STIPE, not to be nitpicky but the current Christian Death are probably hated even by the fans of this album...

I can't judge Miike's work as, unfortunately, I haven't seen any of his films yet (a serious gap), but as for the good Shinya, it is also possible that when he describes couple life he doesn't have the pretension of criticizing Japanese society by "shooting into the crowd"; perhaps he simply wants to put his personal experience on film. Then it's up to us to understand whether what we see in his films can be extended to a significant part of Japanese society or if they are just isolated cases.

Not bad (aside from the educación).

Honestly, I also think this film is lengthy (three hours for a plot of 10 lines) and deeply unbalanced (an hour to describe a marriage and the deer hunt). If it had been cut down by a good half hour, not much would have been lost.

Well, I don’t know if this film has received the blessing of all the Jews. I read somewhere that Art Spiegelman, the author of the comic "Maus," severely criticized this film for trivializing the Holocaust. In any case, aside from the various political controversies (which I find hard to understand and, in any case, don’t interest me), I think this film is less than mediocre due to its truly shoddy historical reconstruction and the acting that resembles a RAI fiction. I congratulate Cecchi Gori for managing to sell this piece of junk as a masterpiece.

But then watching this film and "A Snake Of June," I wondered: is the couple's life of the Japanese as apathetic and weary as Tsukamoto describes? It's probably pointless to generalize, but from various sources, I've heard that the Japanese see family more as a "status symbol" to showcase externally than as the center of their existence and affection. I don’t know if this is more or less true, but it must be said that good Tsukamoto paints a truly depressing portrait of Japanese couple life.

@psychopompe: I saw "Gemini," and like all Tsukamoto's films, it is very well-crafted visually but has a very simple plot and a much more linear progression compared to his other works. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, "Gemini" and "Hiruko" are the only films he made on commission, so they are more "normal."

Well, I can't give a deep judgment on Sonic Youth since I've only listened to two of their albums, but I can share my personal impressions. I don't know if the noise they make is calculated or improvised, but sometimes they give me the impression of using confusion due to a lack of ideas and compositional clarity, somewhat like classic rock bands resort to solos. Scaruffi often spouts nonsense, but I completely agree when he says that Thurston Moore is a horrible singer; he has no voice and is monotonous, he’s just not cut out for that role. On the other hand, I love Kim Gordon's voice, especially highlighted in tracks like "Star Power" and "Shadow Of A Doubt," which are particularly well done. As for the innovation discussion, I also have serious doubts about the "fundamentality" of SY; the MARS already had a very similar musical approach back in 1978 and I often repeat that their "Elen Fordsdale" was pillaged by Sonic Youth. Then there's talk about the heavy influence of Glenn Branca and Wharton Tiers' Theoretical Girls, and indeed from some samples, it seemed like an apt comparison. I just ordered the album, and when it arrives, I'll let you know. I think Sonic Youth were developers rather than inventors, a bit like Nirvana.
