Imitating a style of reviewing already used by other users, I want to present to you "Il cacciatore." Which really doesn't need any introduction, because we all know it's a masterpiece, and a thousand other things already said and heard. Yet, human stupidity knows no end, nor shame: even when talking about a film like this, it’s discussed gaily as if in a bar. Disgust at first, then compassion.
"I watched it last night on DVD, at the insistence of my husband who considers it a beautiful film... I found it extremely verbose. The director dwells for hours on small moments trying to fill them with meanings that aren't actually there! [...] Meryl Streep, it’s unclear who she loves, De Niro is surreal in his coldness, Cazale is useless (like when he played Fredo in The Godfather)." (Miria, 24 years old, Salerno).
"When I saw it at the newsstand I said 'another masterpiece from Al Capone of 1987!'. And instead... insipid, vulgar, pathetic, to be avoided." (Film critic, 14 years old, Camaiore).
"To be reviewed skipping here and there, avoiding the boring part....." (Massimo, 28 years old, Milan).
"The most boring boredom ever seen... I don't think I've ever been so bored by a movie! Avoid it!" (Rudi, 26 years old, Trento).
"God... what a crap!!! A shamefully boring, overrated movie... Milestone of what??? There's a group of friends going deer hunting... One gets married... Then they're in Vietnam, suddenly... Someone returns, some others remain... Russian roulette is the base of the film, repetitive and in many scenes empty... Whatever... Tell me, why did this movie win five Oscars!!! Sure, it was the first real Vietnam movie, but it's too inconclusive, in many parts senseless or too mysterious." (Fabio, 18 years old, Caselle).
"When I finished watching it, I swear, I got bored watching dances and little parties, I just couldn't stand watching that sort of endless introduction anymore, waiting for the movie to start, eventually...!!! So, I stopped watching it, because to stay awake I had to fight hard." (Anna, 24 years old, Caserta).
"Personally, I didn't find this film to be much, the scenes where they're in Vietnam and get captured by the Vietcong are too fast and not nice, it's more touching for its theme of friendship, but for the war, it's rather poor." (Dario, 25 years old, Padua).
"The only aspect I could grasp from this film is the value of friendship, but I don't understand how they could award this film 5 Oscars." (Superhearts, 20 years old, Palermo).
"It may well be a masterpiece in its genre, but apart from the 'Russian roulette' scene, it's quite boring, long, verbose... and De Niro isn't even over the top." (Marco, 21 years old, Loreto). P.S.: I find this the best.
"Why is it a masterpiece and not a mediocre work?". (Marcello, 35 years old, Cagliari).
Just saying. Nothing special.
