Journeyman Mama 6

Everything lights up when the traveler man passes by. But the third trip called "National Hjinx" surpasses this. Under the pseudonym WOOB, Paul Frankland has created one of the most beautiful records of the past decade. Deep and spectacular ambient dub. It's a shame it's a rarity. It might be worth paying attention to again...

Well, I don't believe that reviews are meant to induce purchases. Otherwise, we would be doing marketing. Here you will find described the effects this album produces on a listener. You will find two lines of description of the musical contents. You will find 4 samples. etc.

Aeneas, I don't want to convince anyone. Neither about the album nor about the book. But you should read (better) both the review and the book. In the end, you will find the only thing Palomar says, which is this: "We cannot know anything external to ourselves by surpassing ourselves; the universe is the mirror in which we can contemplate only what we have learned to recognize in ourselves." I used to see Marcovaldo when I rode the wave; now I am like Palomar, that is, I observe what remains.

Trust me, dear Enea. After so much observing, after so much living, the only thing that Palomar is convinced of is precisely that which is stated in the last lines. As Calvino reveals: “A man sets out to reach, step by step, wisdom. He has not yet arrived.” Between Palomar and Marcovaldo, I prefer the former, especially living in these times.

As I write in the review, I’m not interested in comparisons. Because what often trips us up are the expectations. All I need is the fact that here are contained 4-5 of the most beautiful tracks ever written by Boc and perhaps by a good part of today’s electronics. I invite you to listen to it multiple times without thinking about anything else. Especially the idea that one must always amaze or be “ahead.”

There are 4 samples just for a taste for those who are fasting. Regarding the "harsh" and light "criticism" of this album, it mainly pertains to Italy. Even though the good Fabio De Luca considered it the best of the three. If you go to www.metacritic.com, a site that gathers reviews from various magazines, you will find an excellent average, and even higher is that of the listeners. For zzzzzzzzz: even Palomar ends up getting distracted every time he observes something, so you can't go wrong, it's precisely his strength. That of weakness, as Odradek notes. Of human weakness.

I pose a brief reflection for those present on the slippery territory made of art, criticism, and music. It concerns the context, that is, where we are now discussing, commenting, and dialoguing. This is what makes deBaser stand out from the classic: I passively read a review by a critic and either listen to or ignore the music. Here there is more, something alive, something active. It even happens that, as Odradek pointed out, the subject, the artist, comes into play. Reviews often take on different forms precisely because of the context and because they are written by non-critics. It happens that they are often not critiques but rather emotions expressed in writing. Simple attempts to describe what certain music provokes without any further ends or purposes (of profit). All of this and much more (because the "page" moves and enriches or impoverishes) happens on this site. And I don't think it happens often.

Great page. Among the collaborations, let's also add Tortoise and Gil Scott Heron, who recently appeared in this database. And among the genres, dub.
Jazzanova In Between

Steps for creative research (!) on writing reviews. Dante is fine. But it's the subject that's off the wall. So, as has already been said, this is a provocation. Childish and rather stale. If you really want to slam an album like this, use convincing arguments. Aside from the packaging, which some may not like but is absolutely original. Jazzanova = nu jazz and within it there's a ton of in between. In an evolved form, enriched with voices, samples, and rhythm structures crafted with German precision. Of course, not everything is gold, and some tracks may drag on longer than necessary. But how much class, elegance, and ability to complicate a sound already squeezed from various corners! Prejudices die hard, so let’s leave everyone with their own opinions, as long as they are sincere and without ulterior motives.

Oops, I missed the vote on the album; I would say I don't vote because I don't know it.
