@surfer: ..come on.. "Humburger Hill is unwatchable" seems like too harsh a judgment!:DD! Irvin isn't a genius, but the film isn't bad at all, it’s just that the comparison with AN and Platoon is mortifying!!.. for instance, I’d apply the same argument to "Vittime di Guerra" (a film that, by the way, I don’t particularly like). I completely agree with the distinction you make between Platoon and AN: two different ways of being masterpieces. Cheers!

@Fidia: (uhm..sorry for the delay in this response, but I was called to order!!:DD!). Indeed, that "even for a tiger" is awful and doesn't convey what I meant (which I hope I clarified better in the subsequent post..). Regarding the other matter: unfortunately, Marco, Federico, and I haven't met in person (also because Federico is a bit "out of the way" for me and Marco..)..we did everything via email! As you can imagine, it wasn't easy, but that’s exactly why I’m even more pleased with the result! Bye!

@Fidia: clear!!!:DDD!!..that's exactly what I meant!..Coppola's soldiers are not flawless and fearless heroes, nor are they driven by an ideal they feel is their own. They are human in every way, with all the ugliness, imperfections, pettiness, and weaknesses of being human: Chef's reaction is one of the most human and understandable there could be! A couple of notes (which I sincerely hope do not come off as arrogant or presumptuous.. it's just that this film has enchanted me..): the character of Kilgore and the surfing scene are said to have been an idea from the screenwriter Milius (who is also the director of "Un mercoledì da leoni"), Heart of Darkness is not the only book by Conrad that Coppola drew inspiration from, there's also Typhoon!! P.S.: thank you for understanding.. really..

Dear Fidia, I have never hidden how much I appreciate your writings, nor have I failed to respect and admire you as a reviewer and as a person. However, this review, (I say this in all honesty, knowing I can count on your intelligence...), did not please me at all. It was too focused on a plot that, if we want to be honest, is the least interesting aspect of the film, and it doesn't mention at least two of the many "added values" of this production: the soundtrack and Storaro's cinematography. But, above all, the contrast between this and previous war films in depicting the soldiers: no longer "heroes" fighting blindly for an ideal, but "men" who are afraid (...even of a tiger...). One more thing: it's KURTZ, not Kurz. This is, most likely, my favorite film and, just as likely, I have been too harsh in judging this review, so I won’t rate it to avoid damaging the average. I truly hope I haven't overstepped. With unchanged esteem.

@dreamwarrior: so true! Barker's talent lies mainly in his ideas (the figures of the Supplicants, the city of Midian...), it's a shame they are accompanied by a technical execution that doesn't quite match up!

..but really, have they made 17 studio albums?!?.. I think I missed a few! :DD! Anyway, you piqued my curiosity.. nice review, too bad about the track by track.. Bye!

Very nice review. A film that I consider decent but nothing more. Another film whose legendary aura I've never understood is Cabal.. oh well! Hello everyone!

..ah!.. I didn’t quite understand why you called them "spineless forebears".. but it doesn’t matter much.. goodbye!

I believe that all the music of the (early) Raven can be summed up in the cover of this album: three crazy guys making a huge noise!!.. but how well they did it!! Also splendid is the subsequent Wiped Out! Nice review!!

I agree with charley: Pozzetto's films have something strange about them, a kind of melancholy.. who knows!. Not exactly exceptional films.. How strange that it has been reviewed.. Bye!
