@thirdeye: I’ve been listening to it these days (not much to be honest, just in the car on the way to the office…). It doesn’t seem bad, maybe a bit too messy… let’s say a 3-3.5… I’m not a big fan of the vocals: too angry… and the parts like growl which, in my opinion, fit as well as boneless onions in a Nutella sandwich… They’re playing on the 26th, right?!… I swear I briefly thought about heading down to Lazio to see them… but it’s toooooo much hassleeeeeee…

..to tell the truth, I just discovered that MirrorMask won an award at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. So, keep in mind that there's a strong chance I don't understand a damn thing and that this movie might be absolutely amazing. Well.. you can find it on the torrent.. and maybe even at Fnac. If you feel like it, check it out and let me know!!:DDDD!! Bye and thanks again to everyone!!

Thank you very much, Bjork. It was, honestly, a rather painful and thoughtful critique (I watched the film quite some time ago, but I only decided to review it in these days, given the judgment I had decided to attribute to it). Since I’ve been on Debaser, I had never gone below 4 stars.. I always tried to talk about artists or works that I appreciate, and it’s really a shame to have to make my debut in critiques with this film (on which I had truly high expectations). Coming to your question: the Gaiman-McKean duo has a distinctly recognizable "trademark." Especially McKean (of whom I recommend some prints available on his official website) has a style that, while very heterogeneous, original, and even complex, is immediately attributable to him. The same goes for Gaiman: as I mention in the review, let's say he is quite attached to certain "registers" (which, although quite widespread today, he himself helped to create around the late '80s). Apart from Sandman (which, given its complexity and the vast scope of the work, has allowed him to truly span all fields of human knowledge), for example, his almost obsession with deities from all cultures reached its peak in what is, to this day, his most beautiful book: "American Gods." MirrorMask is not inspired by either Gilliam or Burton.. let’s say it’s simply the imperfect adaptation of their way of conceiving a story.. The problem is that this very imperfection makes it unsuitable for introducing/appreciating these two authors to those who are not already familiar with them. Those who have been around in their "kosmo" for a while will recognize the traits and identify the matrices.. but they will soon realize that the peaks of their creative genius are to be sought elsewhere.

Due to time constraints, I've only read half of it: sorry, but I hate track by track.. I think the album is very good.. especially considering it's a debut. A bit of a letdown and a bit queer in some parts, but well-played and well-arranged. Definitely superior, in my opinion, is the next one. Bye!

A big thank you also to kosmo (thank you so much.. every visit from you is an honor..) and to the poet (who I know doesn’t share my musical-cinematic tastes, but always graces me with sumptuous comments and judgments - which I truly hope to deserve!!:DD). @Festwca: what you say is true, but I think your comparisons are a bit, how to put it, unfair!.. Electric Wizard and High On Fire are the hyperuranium of drugs in the amplifier.. compared to them, the poor Orange Goblin look like bank clerks! And then, ugh, I’m a bit of a neophyte in this genre.. of course you excite me with little!!:DDD! Bye and thanks again!!

I begin by humbly and sincerely thanking everyone who visited this page. I must admit I was surprised by the vote for Fetwca (I don’t know why, but I was convinced that you guys liked them a lot!!:DDD!). I reply to autopilot and Caz: I believe this is an excellent starting point (it was for me..), especially for what I mentioned in the review: it strikes a great balance between what they did before and what they would do later. Frequencies remains probably the most beautiful album, but perhaps this is better to start with. Coupe De Grace was a bit of a disappointment for me: after reading some reviews online, I expected something extraordinary.. and I found myself listening to what was basically an angry metal album!.. too bad I already have plenty of angry metal albums in my collection.. A piece of advice for those wanting to get to know this band: trust Caz. The more recent works are still good, but I fear they may have already given their best with the first three albums. Hi everyone and thanks again!
