Hi Francescobus!!.. oh my goodness.. did you know that I've actually never seen the movies you mentioned?!?.. now you've made me curious.. I wonder if I can find them on the mule..

Honestly, even my three stars might seem exaggerated. Let's put it this way: 1) it's the minimum; 2) because it's not the worst of the series; 3) for its "historical significance." If we consider it in "absolute value"... well... a harsh critique is warranted. World, in the review I seem to have pointed out SOME flaws of this film (poor character representation, direction, lack of originality, fluctuating pace...). Don't you see them?

@world: just out of curiosity: can you tell me who these "many" are that consider it the best horror of all time?!? Hi!

I took a look on Wikipedia: basically, aside from the first three Evil Dead films and Darkman, Campbell mostly made cameos.. In recent years, he even participated in the series Xena and Hercules (both, if I'm not mistaken, produced and created by Raimi), both as an actor and as a director for some episodes.. in short.. not exactly what you'd call a dazzling career. Really a shame..

..mmm..Campbell and the embalmed grandfather trapped in an old abandoned house, looking like freight trains.. Now that would have been a good title: "Don't Open That Door"..

Well, Lord, but it's precisely the "cut" of the film that is deliberately different.. While Texas wants to stay as grounded in reality as possible, The House is like a splatter-fantasy (does that definition even exist?!.. who knows..) There are scenes in The House that make you snicker, Campbell's rubber face is a hoot.. in my opinion, it's much harder in a horror to be DELIBERATELY humorous as well as "just" terrifying.. I wonder if "I’ve made myself clear"..

@ajeje: mmm... actually, I didn't take Leatherface into account... by the way, I've never seen either III or IV from the franchise: I imagine they're garbage, can anyone confirm? Between The Evil Dead and Don't Open?!... quite the battle... on one side there's Campbell's punchable face, but on the other there’s the greatest invention I've ever seen in a horror: THE EMBALMED GRANDPA...

:DDDD!!..well done Poletti! You’re right: great observation! Let’s say that horror (even the most ignorant kind) has always been my obsession.. like a stain on a criminal record! The chocolate - poop home page transition is indeed quite funny..! Anyway, if you think this is unbearable, the next two are even worse: things happen that make no sense at all.. at a certain point in the third one, the protagonist takes refuge at home and there’s a relatively long scene where she closes one door and the wind opens a window. She closes the window and the wind opens another door. And it goes on like this for 3-4 times.. Not only is there no tension, but it makes absolutely no sense!

The Evil Dead is on another planet: it makes you both shit yourself and laugh out loud at the same time. Nick says it perfectly: "unbeatable"! By the way, there are some hilarious stories about the shoot, like the fact that the house where they filmed didn’t have a basement and the crew had to move into Raimi's house basement! :D! Right in second place, I put Nightmare - From the Depths of the Night, and I complete the podium with Halloween!

Ah! I forgot: I didn't know about the new Rot, but it sure put a nice squid in my ear! These days I rewatched The Last House on the Left by Craven.. it may not be a masterpiece (shot pretty poorly - delusional script), but I think it deserves a reevaluation!
