Manilla Road have written one of my top 5 favorite epic songs of all time: THE NINTH WAVE.. what a piece of art! I hardly listen to metal anymore, but that song is pure genius!

Even better, get King Of The Dead by Cirith Ungol!!!

I agree with supersoul: 5 seems really exaggerated to me as well. It's definitely not among my favorite Corman films, while I would rather see the grinning "I Maghi Del Terrore": the Karloff-Price showdown is truly a load of nonsense! :D!

The least inspired album?! The glories of Fighting The World?!? Black Arrows and Burning horrifying?! Demon's Whip too long?!? You must be confusing the band. I'm telling you this without any malice and/or irony. You like power, fast stuff... Manowar SHOULD be epic metal. And this album, for at least half of its duration, is a good epic metal record, definitely angrier and darker than Kings Of Metal and Fighting The World! It's clear that if your "Manowar" are the ones from Wheels Of Fire and various nonsense, you'd better listen to Edguy or something power-related!

I confess to having written the previous comment under the effects of the limoncello kindly offered by the owner of "Ristorante Pizzeria - Mimmo 2" in Sacconago (ample internal parking, pizzas available at lunchtime, meal vouchers accepted). I hope that, in my citrus-induced delirium, something made sense. To sum up my thoughts with a literary metaphor, I would say: Moorcock and Howard impale Terry Brooks and Zimmer Bradley. Then again, this is just my opinion... I'm going to make myself a coffee... Happy Saturday everyone!

Now let me explain Battlegods. Fighting The World and Kings Of Metal are too immediate. They have catchy choruses, nice melodies, the BALLADS!!! In short, they offer a reading of epic metal that is too sweetened, too tailored for the general public. Listen to Hatred on Into Glory Ride: heavy, super heavy, dark sounds, almost hallucinatory with doom inspiration, read the lyrics and hear how Adams delivers them.. and, above all, feel the fucking scream he pulls towards the end! Listen to Bridge Of Death, Mountains... Then listen to Carry On, Fighting The World, Kings Of Metal, Kingdom Come and all that jazz.. See if they don’t sound like a copy of the early ones! Hail & Kill?!? Nice. Really, I like it. But it’s gotten old. I want Guyana. Actually.. Guyaaaanaaaaaaaa

This isn’t exactly true. Take away the half-baked Fighting The World and Kings Of Metal. Into Glory Ride is a killer epic old-style masterpiece, raw and dark, and, for example, it has nothing to do with Triumph Of Steel or Hail To England (nice, but a bit less). Sign Of The Hammer is an amazing album, period, with at least two or three songs that show both kids and adults how to do epic metal without orchestras, printed dragons even on underwear, and various nonsense.

Great review indeed. Especially because it avoids the rants of a convinced metalhead. Well done! A really nice album, but in my opinion, it has aged a bit poorly.. Avoid the track by track and no one can take that 5 away from you!
