I, on the other hand, watched Maniac during the week, the original from the early '80s or so. Very nice: basically, every time Joe Spinell is on screen, you have to get up from the couch to wipe the grease off the screen with the Quasar... Now I'm curious to see the remake with Elijah Wood.
Dave Sim Cerebus the Aardvark

I met the character a long time ago on the pages of Spawn, during the time when McFarlane had called in some well-known comic book masters to give more "depth" to the stories of the caped zombie, including Dave Sim, of course. The entire Cerebus project seemed extremely fascinating to me, but I gave up on following it after discovering that there wasn't a complete version in Italian. Among other things, I read that, especially in the last years of publication, Sim kind of lost it, ending up using Cerebus for his tirades against feminism and monotheistic religions, stirring quite a bit of controversy. Great review.

Here, I would say no to the lammerdalammerda. However... it's a bit of a pain. As I've already said elsewhere, I really like Gilliam for his visionary, poetic, and at the same time cruel style. The problem, as far as I'm concerned, is the systematic hypertrophy: he lacks the ability to synthesize and create cohesion, getting too carried away by his inventions and/or intuitions. In this case: aside from the fact that the girl is annoying practically from the third shot, I genuinely struggle to endure over two hours of film. It's definitely my fault, of course, but maybe not. It's like a great chef who keeps feeding his diners until they burst, leaving them with their bellies tight as a drum and some digestive issues. I mean, after the 70th course, even Gualtiero Marchesi can be a pain...

If I’m not mistaken, I discovered them because they were mentioned in the acknowledgments of Chaos A.D.: I have no memory of them, except that they made a lot of (beautiful) noise. The review is good and is an enjoyable read, but Flo's comment stirs feelings of anger and frustration in me. I will only vote for you after you've made a public ammerenda.

The review is monumental, but it is read with great pleasure. You make observations that, based on my experience with this band and my relationship with some of their albums, I find more than agreeable. I have seen them live a couple of times, and as I have mentioned elsewhere, their concert in 2006 in Assago was undoubtedly among the 3-5 most beautiful concerts I have ever seen in my life.
Richard Linklater A Scanner Darkly (Un Oscuro Scrutare)

I really enjoyed the book. I found it ironic and desperate, filled with dark humor (the delirium about changing the bike is exemplary), and with endless sadness. The ending, then, is truly touching. I haven’t read a lot of Dick, but this is definitely among the ones I liked the most. The film, on the other hand, didn’t completely convince me. From a technical/visual standpoint, it’s more interesting than enjoyable (however, the rendering of the suits seemed very effective), and some episodes from the book are adapted with great fidelity. However, it lacks a bit of cohesion and loses some of the tearing sense that is, instead, very present in the book.

Recently viewed. All the parts about the protagonist's "growth" are excellent. In fact, I can't think of other works of this kind that handle the transition to adulthood with such simplicity and effectiveness. What, on the other hand, didn’t wow me or didn't seem particularly well-executed is the so-called "fantastical" aspect. The film also seems to take a few extra minutes to truly take off, spending a bit too much time on the identity of the "mysterious book renter," which – let's be honest – isn't all that mysterious after all. The film remains a more than pleasant watch, but – personally – I will still count it among the studio's "minor" works. However, you did an excellent job really.

Alright. Very well. Great. Now we’re also going to start being nerds to see who knows more about computers. Let’s also say goodbye to any chance of finding someone to hook up with on Debaser.

Great feedback and excellent review. In your case, "as usual" is totally fitting. I'm really sorry I can't comment on all your reviews, but know that I read you almost always and I appreciate you a lot. Congratulations.
