You're right. It's difficult, but in my opinion, not impossible. Or at least it wasn't until a few years ago. I think, for example, of the more than dignified returns of Sodom, Destruction, and Testament from the early 2000s. However, they were already great bands in the scene! Because you see, in my opinion, the problem lies in the fact that the thrash revival has also thawed a lot of '80s bands that had released 1-2 albums, which, all in all, didn't have much left to say, and that - I couldn't say whether by their choice or by decision of some record label - decided to take advantage of the renewed public interest in that genre. In the meantime, though, many things have changed: 1) the average technical level of the bands out there has skyrocketed, while back then it was enough to just have the money to buy an instrument 2) the market dynamics have changed, so now even my neighbor who farts has his myspace, his website, and his album of unpublished farts available on emule 3) recording techniques have changed, and now either you go to record in prison with Uncle Burzy, or, no matter how aggressive it is, you will always end up with a rather polished product. This reminds me a bit of what happened with the disjointed comedy of the '70s: since Tarantino called Lino Banfi "maestro," there has been a wild resurgence of every piece of trash from that period, Alvaro Vitali has been deemed ready to act in Durenmatt, Gloria Guida was the blonde Magnani, and off they went to make (pathetic) re-editions of er monnezza and company.

@starblazer: you can find their albums (LP) on eBay now. Maybe it’s a bit harder to find this one and Paradise Lost, but with a little effort and some cash, it shouldn’t be too difficult anymore. Not to mention that Fogle, in '98, before he died, had to sell hundreds of memorabilia from the golden era...

...mmm... Black, I should mention that I haven’t read the review or the comments, but I really don’t see all these references to "La Maschera di Bava" (:DD!): what do you think they would be?

I have always liked the way Whelan illustrated Elric: I think he really captures the essence of the character! However, I've never understood why the Cirith Ungiol ended up using some of the less captivating images from his work... perhaps because they were cheaper!:DD! It's worth mentioning that, in general, the CU have always approached Moorcockian themes in their own way: even Nadsokor, if you think about it, although it generally speaks of the character of Elric, has as its title the name of the stinky city!:DD!

@francescobus: between yesterday and today I listened to the latest from Paradox ("Electrify"): honestly, it's not driving me crazy... A bit too melodic for my taste: it seems to take a lot from American power/thrash and, especially, from 90s German power metal. And then the drums have this artificial sound that I just can't stand: the kick drum feels way too intrusive. Even the vocals seem to have lost quite a bit of bite... Have you by any chance heard the previous one?!?

For a certain period, I listened to him even more than his successors. Today, I tend to consider it the weakest of their discography: too dated in sound and still too little original, too traditional and still too little sick. They will give their best with the next two albums. In any case, one of the greatest bands of medal. I repeat what I've written elsewhere: their Nadsokor is among the 10 most beautiful heavy medal songs EVER.
