Still too few votes/comments. As an excuse to make amends, I discover the obvious and say that The Druid's attack is copied straight from Supernaut. See you in about a year.

Miraculous disc, it’s my Mister Hydraulics Muscle Gel for the soul, perfect for scraping off the grime of a shitty day. And it works.

The review provides all the necessary information to decide whether or not to get the record. So, I would say it fully achieves its purpose. By the way, I don’t know these and they might interest me. Well done!

Black, forgive me, but it's already quite complicated to follow you because of your unfortunate adherence to the wreckage, and when you use expressions like "refusi doom" and "opiate filter of technique," I no longer understand what you mean. You said you feel Iommi's influence (spiritual father of doom) in the intro of Whiplash (perhaps the tightest song on the album which, you say, institutionalized speed/thrash), and I respond: the intro of Whiplash consists of 4 drum hits and the same chord repeated 4 times. Then comes the super shredding, with Hetfield screaming about the adrenaline flowing, pogoing, thrashing all around... Here We Go! (solo: uananarauanaranauunauaranuanaranuan a...). It's not that you see Iommi here and I don’t. Iommi is simply not present. There is virtually none of the typical Sabbath style here: there are no sounds, no drum patterns, no guitar riffs, no themes. Who cares if Ulrich instead of going to drum lessons stayed home listening to Sabbra Cadabra (not by chance, when it came to do a cover, they picked one of the least doom-oriented songs available). You talked about a "heavy element of Sabbathian memory" and then you find it in the first 30 seconds of a song that for the rest is pure speed metal... a bit too little, right?! PS: I actually named my dog after the singer of Black Sabbath (I'm not joking)!;)) I’m off, have a good evening!

I've seen them live at least a dozen times when they were a cover band performing in smaller venues. Then one day, I found them on MTV! She's pretty good live, but as pleasant as a chicken slicer stuck in your back. Nice review.

@Blackdog: the beginning of Whiplash is marked Iommi?! Exactly in what way?! In the initial "machine-gun" drumming? Or in that one power chord (if I remember correctly..) that gets repeated 4 times, before the riff kicks in that pretty much lasts until the end of the song?! There’s no downtuning, there are no diminished fifths, there are no dark-apocalyptic-witchcraft atmospheres, there are no slow parts. In short: there’s more or less fuck-all Sabbathian here! Either you haven't listened to enough Sabbath, or you haven't listened to enough Metallica, or you haven't listened to enough of both. Listen to Trouble from the first album and listen to Mournin' by NightSun. Then tell me where you find Iommi and where you find proto metal. Happy start of the week to everyone!

@Stoney: this isn’t about music in general. The discussion started with: "Oh, how nice! The Metallica are back to playing thrash!". At this point, I say: the Metallica have been one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time, if only for the media impact they've had for the past 25 years. As I've already said: 4 beautiful albums, at least one of which is a masterpiece. However, when we talk about thrash metal (a genre characterized, indeed, by a more aggressive approach and which has been loudly called for a return), I say: the thrash of Metallica is definitely "sui generis," a thrash that we could say is rather sweetened, featuring numerous elements that soften the sound, moving it away from those standards of "sonic aggression" that instead characterize the genre. Sonic aggression becomes an added value when discussing the belonging and contribution that a band/album has made to the birth and definition of a genre that counts sonic aggression among its distinctive features.
