I don’t quite agree that the so-called "mass phenomenon" should be seen as a negative factor. In the world of children’s literature, thanks to HP, reading has stopped being considered ā€œboring stuff for geeky nerds.ā€ On the contrary: the elementary school kid who hadn't read the latest HP was a fool. Okay, it might be the effect of media buzz, crude marketing, etc., but bringing many children closer to reading and legitimizing it as a ā€œcoolā€ pastime has been a good thing. When I was a kid, there simply weren't proposals of this kind. Today, for a child wanting to read, there’s everything and more. As for the "work": we’re talking about a saga that has carried millions of readers for years, people who read the first chapter in elementary school and found themselves reading the end in high school! I don’t think there are many literary sagas for children that can maintain readers’ interest to such an extent, with a narrative structure of this magnitude (even considering all the plot holes and forced elements that emerge in the last episodes). If we just compare HP with Eragon (another literary-fantasy case of recent years, also subjected to a lot of - unjustified - media hype), well, I’d say it’s not even a contest: nerd with magic wand beats dragoness in perpetual premenstrual crisis 10 to 0.

Oops!! I think I missed this comment of yours!:DD! Actually, I was a bit surprised too.. it must be that Waywyard sons (or whatever they're called...) I haven't listened to them in a long time! Anyway, if you get the chance, I'll give Folkemon and The Abwers Machine a listen: really good stuff!

You surprised me with the review on Coleman... this one, however, is a true disappointment: it doesn't manage to be as funny as it could have been (considering all the ideas the novel offers), nor does it, for that matter, approach the "phenomenon" with a critical eye. In short: a halfway point that lacks any flavor. Too bad. Even though the subsequent episodes are far superior, the book, in its "genre," is a gem.

Let's say their sound has varied significantly over the years. And let's also say that they haven't made any bad albums (at least as far as I know: I don't have their entire discography), so in this case, you can really fish around without the risk of finding a boot attached to the line. That said, it seems to me that the majority agrees in considering Unsolved one of the peaks of their discography. Personally, I am very fond of In Place Of Real Insight (which I believe is the first one I listened to) and, of course, Some Boots where "Corduroy" is featured, my absolute favorite song by Farina and company: stuff that even today, if it pops into my ears at the "wrong" moment, is still capable of moving me to tears.

As you say in the review: knowing the ingredients but not the recipe doesn’t help. A debaserian life ago, I reviewed "Some Boots" and, if I remember correctly, I wrote something like: "I love those contradictory terms where one can’t help but stumble upon when trying to fit them into a single genre". Looking back, I quote myself! :D! To anyone who doesn’t know them, I say: remedy that as soon as possible, you won’t regret it.

I talked about it already, I don't remember where anymore, I don't remember with whom: I should mention that I read it about ten years ago, but... what a drag! I found it really wordy and in many parts quite ineffective. Maybe if I read it again today I would appreciate it much more... who knows!

I mean: are Sleep playing all of Holy Mountain?!? And Grails too?! And the Star Trek-style logo?!? Has anyone already alerted the good taste police and the anti-sophistication task forces?! This morning, however, I found out that Monster Magnet are playing at Alcatraz on November 23... let’s hope we can check this one off our list too...

Bulletin-Concert Los Natas: 1) I have friends who are sons of bitches that listen to crap music. So I had to go ALONE, in a downpour and running on empty. 2) I arrived embarrassingly early: I enter the venue and see only three guys drinking beer. I was about to ask for information and I hear them speaking Spanish: it was Los Natas. 3) I was dressed too lightly. 4) They started playing after two hours and ten cigarettes from when I arrived. 5) Stunning concert: every guitar chord brushed my pubic hair, at some points really impactful, but I expected them to be much less raw. Too bad for a few mistakes. 6) The guy at the CD stand was a really cool chubby guy: he managed to convince me to buy a t-shirt with a super cool red motorcycle!! He told me that a new album is coming out in early 2009 and by the end of the year, Toba Trance Vol. 3 will be released (followed by the fourth and final chapter in 2010).
