@sfascia: I'm actually listening to it again right now, and I confess that I remembered it as being less intense and already more on the viking side. You can find something epigonic in it (like the title track and A fine day to die), but for the rest, I think you are right! :))

@Terry, are you mad at me?! I’m not joking, if you are, just send me a private message! m dsprbb s t h ftt arrbbre! :(( @Azzo: actually, I suspected/hoped that my face wouldn’t be the main attraction of the evening! Of course, I’d be a bit sad if my girlfriend were to become that! :DDD I confess I didn’t really think you appreciated Colour Haze... does this mean we might have a common band!! @Gian: to be honest, I think I was a bit of the instigator of DeM on Azzo’s review... so, feel free to blame me. :))

2) I read Telespalla's comment where it's suggested that "trash readings" should be replaced by others capable of forming the "adult in the making," etc., etc. I don't really agree with that. I might sound cliché (as usual, after all...), but I sincerely believe that there is a right time for everything (even the Bible says so, dang it!), including trash readings. For various reasons, I grew up in a house where there wasn't even a book or a newspaper. In fact, I either settled for the label on the ketchup bottle or nothing at all. If I hadn't stumbled upon "trash readings," which came to me almost by accident, I probably would never have read, say, Kafka, Conrad, Carver, or anyone like that. I'll tell you, as far as I'm concerned, it's fine to read Moccia at 12, if that helps you get to reading Stephen King at 14, Garcia Marquez at 16, and Celine at 18 (names thrown out at random, huh?). Your statement that there is a "DUTY of a healthy society to remove childish theories and ways to make someone already an adult" sounds a bit like "forced indoctrination" to me, and I don't like that idea at all. If nothing else, it assumes the possibility of defining the concept of "adult." I believe it's much more "beautiful," but above all much more formative, for everyone to have their own path of personal and intellectual growth, maybe coming to realize, years down the line, as in my case, how some judgments made in youth could have been quite wrong. That's all! :))

To tell the truth, I didn't expect to receive all these visits/comments. Well, thank you so much to everyone, especially to those who managed to spark an interesting discussion from one of my usual rants about underwear (...mmm... there might be grounds for a new category of reviews, the "BRUUMM!!"). I think it's a bit late for me to intervene in the debate. I'm sorry about that and I'll limit myself to two general considerations. 1) I read that some compare Brizzi in general (and this book in particular) to Moccia. Personally, I do not agree. While not wanting to deny JF's stylistic, creative, and narrative limitations, I believe that as a "youth" novel, it deserves at least a minimum of dignity. The reason can be found in the review: replace the hardcore italiota demos with Slayer records, and the bicycle belonging to Girardengo's Alex with a black and battered Si Piaggio, and you'll have young Bartleboom in all his acne-ridden splendor! :D The afternoons of haphazard studying, alternating every page with a peek at Video Music, the fun with friends, as well as the "great truths" about the universe shared in the bathroom during changing periods, are all things that truly were part of my adolescence. Let’s put it this way: Brizzi was a twenty-something writing about a sixteen-year-old: he might not have had those great writing skills, but at least he did it with a bit of awareness. Moccia, on the other hand, is a forty-something overweight, balding man with a voice like a prank call, who talks about girls dressing like slobs behind their parents' backs and going to a club to make a scene, about gym-addicted bullies from the suburbs who ride motorcycles and beat everyone up, destroy houses, yet have a heart of gold. I don't know how to say it... In JF, Alex listens to the Pixies; in 3 Metri sotto al letto, the song by Babi and Step (?!?!) is Beautiful by Christina Aguilera... Just this makes me want to peel an orange in favor of Brizzi!! :DD By the way, with Moccia, a somewhat strange phenomenon has emerged... He started describing a certain type of "youth" that perhaps only existed in his head, and the real "youth" began to want to be like the one described by Moccia! I mean, there was a time when there really were people who went around writing "Me and you 3 meters above the sky" on walls to be like Bambi and Stop!! mah...

As you may have guessed, I can't participate properly in the discussion. I haven't even managed to read all your comments!! However, I wanted to say this: for me too, The Little Prince is one of those books that everyone "should" read. My disappointment is mainly about the part of taming which, I reiterate, has always seemed to me to be a transatlantic load of nonsense. Have a good evening everyone!! :))

Dear Fedee, I think you didn't quite get the spirit of this review. You see, I really suck at writing inner reviews. In fact, it’s a real struggle for me. I have a list as long as Mandingo's chocolate snake of books that I adore and wish I could talk about, recommend, and make others love as much as I have. Yet I can't manage it; I just can't do it. The only thing I can do is share what the reviewed book meant—one way or another—to me. And that's what I've done. I did the same for "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." This is to say: this page makes no claim to "absoluteness" regarding the value or stylistic essence of the book in question, which is why I haven't given it any rating. It's just a story... don't be mad! ;))

Not to forget that this DeMeeting is about to become one of the most ridiculous events in Debaser history!! It was supposed to be in Milan, but then it had to be moved to Vicenza. At first, Ole couldn't come, but now he is. Azzo and the Captain have never heard a single note from Colour Haze... There's a risk of spending the whole evening at the tavern, that's for sure!!! :DDD
