@Kosmo: PERHAPS the voice doesn’t sound bad to you because maybe you’ve only heard a song. In the last two albums, Araya sings like this all the time. In the end, his constantly screamed vocals become rather monotonous, flat. In the good old days, he mixed things up with high notes and had a much tighter, much more “cynical” style, which I personally preferred. @Workhorse: the point I wanted to make in the review is more or less what you’re saying. That is: Slayer has said everything there is to say about thrash metal with two albums. At least about that “type” of thrash metal. Everything that has come after can only be a poor imitation of those two albums. But the metalhead doesn’t seem to realize: you give him the most punk-influenced album or a softer, experimental one?! And he complains that they sold out. You give him the old-school album?! And he complains because “Yeah, well, it’s always the same stuff...”. Meanwhile, though, how many bands of this kind actually fill arenas?!

@Franci: it’s not them who ran out of gas at the end of the '80s. It’s the entire genre that I think has a reason to exist. In the end, they were the only ones (along with a few other more or less unknowns - Sodom and Tankard, for example) to continue making thrash metal. Without a doubt, they were the only ones to maintain their following unchanged, despite some not entirely convincing releases. All the while, the 4 idiots from Frisco were boring us with Load, Reload, and the days of the muffler!

I’ll proceed in order and with great haste: @Psycrptic: Christ Illusion is what the fans wanted. With God Hate, they tried to shift towards hardcore (and all in all they did manage quite well), but some folks frowned because they wanted something like Reign In Blood again. And they delivered. That album is nothing more than a more compact Seasons In The Abyss with more modern sounds!! @Psycho: Reign In Blood is definitely the best of the bunch, but if you don’t know much, go for South Of Heaven. And anyway... I think the pun is intentional! @Iside: you’re cruel.... :(((

The real problem lies in the last line: where are the alternatives?! Who TODAY is at their level not only musically, but also in terms of audience engagement, media impact? I’m going to take a shower because Milan is playing tonight... I’ll be back in a bit and anyway, thank you very much to everyone!!

Here’s the gist of Gasta's link: according to a recent Italian study: "homosexuals (...) are part of an absolutely natural evolutionary design, aimed at increasing fertility. We are facing a kind of ‘strategy of selection among genes’ by nature.”
