The trailer piques my interest until Garcia is framed. Then every interest and desire to see this film evaporates like a little drop of pee left in the underwear. To tell the truth, I didn't mind Little Miss Sunshine, just as, for instance, I didn't mind Juno in more recent times. Perhaps what you say about the proliferation of these "indie with sugar" products is true, but it's also worth mentioning that - except for amateur porn - lately I've been watching very few films.

Dear Trilobite, I’m probably the most fervent detractor of Stieg Larsson around here! Back in the day, there was quite a discussion about that book... forgive me, but I’m posting the link so I don’t end up parroting myself: Uomini Che Odiano Le Donne - Stieg Larsson - Recensione di ilfreddo To keep it very brief, that book made me feel like crap from page 2 to page 5,000! Not that it’s bad in an absolute sense... it’s just that it made me spend a fortune on Imodium. :)

As far as I'm concerned, along with La Banda dei Brocchi, it remains Coe's best work. You're right: the author makes a pact with the reader. It’s then up to the latter to decide whether to play along (the game of mirrors) or dismiss it all as total nonsense. Especially when it comes to the ending. I also agree with your analysis of the book's flaws: a bit of rhetoric here and a bit of "Corman's Poe cycle atmospheres" there. However, a truly remarkable narrative structure remains, in my opinion, made up of references, sometimes genius interweavings, coincidences (both real and apparent), a non-trivial plot, some rather successful secondary characters (the elderly investigator... I can't remember his name) and some cheeky scenes (like the one on the train with the reader). Regarding your comment about being “2-3 notches above”: you brought up The Da Vinci Code, and a while back on these same pages, I mentioned that atomic fart of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," just to stay on the theme of family screw-ups with various murders. In conclusion, I believe that "What a shame, it could have been a 5." perfectly sums up my judgment on the book as well. Very well done. Great debut and your personal profile quip had me in stitches. :)

And what if I told you that I don’t believe in sex before marriage and that, at the same time, I don’t believe in marriage, which means I'm destined to die a virgin?!?

No way. I haven't gotten properly drunk since graduation... Could it be because I stopped drinking?!?

"Bartleboom, why are you such a jerk with no beginning or end?" Well... I've asked myself the same thing. I think it depends on a series of interconnected factors. Certainly, the university I enrolled in has played a determining role, and so has the job I'm doing. I wouldn't underestimate my youthful friendships and teenage readings either. About ten years ago, I would have answered you, "Too many joints in the summer of '96," but for the past 5 years, I've been cleaner than Mastro Lindo. At the moment, I believe the most plausible explanation is the fact that I've stopped smoking.
