Like almost all of Russell's films, it's more enjoyable and personal in the first half and spectacularly loses its way in the finale. This guy is good at outlining hysterical/neurotic and somewhat surreal family situations, mixing comedy and drama in a way that I don't mind. However, he systematically gets carried away with wanting to wrap everything up in a feel-good and sugary manner, akin to pure Hollywood comedy, and inevitably ends up overdoing it. He managed to do it with Silver Linings Playbook in a more acceptable way, but here I think he really misses the mark, and the ending, which nearly approaches the protagonist's popular beatification, felt a bit hard to swallow for me.

I had also listened to "In your mind fuzz" and liked it quite a bit, but then I entered my post-HC phase and completely abandoned certain sounds. I watched the video double feature: basically, it only takes 40 seconds to understand that you are right to call them a band with balls... I think I will dig out In your mind from the box and then I'll dive into Paper Machè. Great job reminding me of them!

To me, OGF tore the lining off my balls like only the worst Von Trier has done in my lifetime. If they had made giant prints of the individual frames from that film, it would have been the photographic exhibition of my life and many others. If, then, someone had made the effort to mix those incredible images with, not a story, but at least some characters, maybe I wouldn't have gotten so worked up. I've read that this one is even worse... This autistic and regressive way of filmmaking really gets under my skin. I can tolerate it much better in other expressive forms, but with cinema, I really struggle. And I don't even want to listen to those who say that Refn lost his mind after Drive and just wants to show everyone how good he is. I'd rather think it's the fault of drugs and discomfort, and color blindness, and drugs again.

I listened to it 2-3 times in the car, and I didn't like it at all. I understand I didn't listen to it under optimal conditions, considering the decidedly more "rarefied" proposal, but it really bored me quite a bit. I didn't like the sounds (the snare in the first track seems terrible to me), and as of now, I haven't found a single memorable piece. Maybe with the visuals it looks great, but as pure listening it doesn't make me want to put it back on my ears. Beautiful, though, the review. For now, much nicer than the album.

In my opinion, it's not his best, but it has some truly remarkable peaks that definitely deserve to be among the highlights of his entire production. "Una mano sugli occhi" and "Le chiavi di casa," along with perhaps the cover of "Le cose non si mettono bene," are worth the price of admission on their own. Contrary to what is stated in the review (which seems a bit too sparse to me), it seems that in this album a very subtle political vein emerges (which becomes brazen in the single) and a hint of bitter misanthropy, which frankly I don’t recall in his other records. For the rest, it's such a minimal album that at times it risks sounding cold and detached, yet it is a pleasure to listen to.

I confess that I didn't appreciate it very much. I find myself resonating with what Larrok said about a certain clumsiness in the development. The "professors" are too one-dimensional and, in at least a couple of cases (the nun and the biologist), they transcend their own stereotype to become real caricatures. Oldman's responses also fluctuate too much between the banal and the fable-like. The final twist, then, seemed to me to be handled very poorly, too hastily and almost unintentionally comical... I don't know.

It's an imperfect film, but in its own way, "hypnotizing." Somehow, it manages to "intimidate you": you watch it and don't understand a thing, but the film convinces you that it's right and you're wrong, and if you don't get what's going on, it's not because it's nonsense, but because you're a fool. Then, as usual, the smart aleck will show up to say things like, "Gn Gn Gnnnn... I don't understand all this attention for a trivial reinterpretation of the pastafarian quantum theories of Von Zumberbaqualot, an Armenian astrophysicist with clear Kenyan-Dutch origins, on which I modestly wrote a paper in third grade." But it’s exactly to these people that I say: "Your classmate who played soccer well gets all the girls and the drugs. You have to wait for them to invent the time machine and hope that in 3000 B.C. everyone has a dick like in Japanese porn films."

Quite interesting, especially for someone like me, who is completely unaware of the meaning of more than half of the technical terms used on that page...

I'm pretty sure I ask this question every time we talk about comics on this page. But Bastard!?!?!?!? I have them at home up to volume 19. And I remember perfectly that at that point I was only buying it to get off (literally): the artwork - especially the use of screentones - was incredible, the original pages must have been as big as a football field... and the female characters were all hot, with huge, naked tits. By the time I got to number 19, my Comic Book Guy started telling me that volume 20 would come out next week, then the week after, then the following month. In the end, I found someone to hook up with regularly and I kinda stopped giving a damn about Bastard!... I think it's been, I don't know, maybe more than 10 years.
