Steve Vai The Elusive Light and Sound Vol. 1

You see, dear GuitarStrings, I am DEEPLY in love with guitar music. I know Vai very well (I've even seen him live), I have all his albums (including the three with Zappa), I've watched his instructional videos, I have the DVD of Alien Love Secrets, and I know Satriani, Petrucci, Howe, Kotzen, Morse, etc. very well too. I have about a hundred CDs of solo Axeman artists, some of them even obscure (Finnish and Russian, especially). And it’s precisely because a) I'm a guitarist who loves technique and furious shred, b) I've listened to a lot of stuff, that I can confidently say this little disc is absolutely unnecessary. Okay, he put it out for the fans wanting to complete his discography. But that’s not enough to say it's a good album. On the contrary, it’s messy and inconclusive. I deeply love Vai; I consider him the best and my guitar inspiration. So I can afford to criticize him. This album is crap. He himself said it. Go read on guitarclub, see what he and the journalist have to say about it. Before you give me a one in ratings. Otherwise, I'll get mad and tell you to sell your a**!

But is the number of "z" characters always the same? How do you do it, do you reach the limit of usable space?

I agree with you that showbiz is an admirable job. But the subsequent work by Muse is, DE CI SA MEN TE poorly produced. The long wave of success and, probably, bad advisors (production, record label) have eroded their origin of symmetry. Indeed, the symmetry with showbiz in a smaller scale exists: same sounds, same song structures, same virility mixed with melancholy. But what’s missing is the verve, the personality, the conviction of playing “right.” Origin is unfortunately the snapshot of regime music, of MTV music. Rivo calls it mainstream music... I simply call it deceitful music. Exactly: origin is a lie that should truly offend Muse fans. But strangely they like it. MUsic-abuSE persists. The lies will be disproven. When the third album comes out, which I hope will be amazing, you will all come to me to have ashes sprinkled on your heads because you will realize how right I am. If they are great (as I believe), they will make a masterpiece. If only they could be MORE independent...

The Placebo are NOT gay like Bowie (and I don’t consider being gay a disgrace, even though I’m old-fashioned...) because only Molko is gay, the drummer is bisexual and the bassist doesn't care. My question arises from the observation that in their second album there’s that slightly bohemian atmosphere (is it spelled like this?) immersed in the power-pop-noise that characterizes and "personalizes" them. I wanted to know if this album is also "personal."

Sure, usually you know enough in reviews, I would like to ask you three questions: 1. How long did you listen to the album before reviewing it (to understand if it’s easy-listening or not)? 2. By rating it 4 stars, it seems to me that it’s an excellent work but not outstanding: how many stars would you give to "placebo" and "without you i'm nothing"? (to have a point of reference) 3. Can you tell that half of the band is homosexual from the album (is "without you i'm nothing" full of references to gay culture)? Thx for the time you spend to answer me.

Daniele, if you download it and you like it, then buy it; if you don't like it, delete it. It's illegal to download albums... I do it in order to "test" them, but the albums I like I buy all of them, and if I don't like them, I delete them, not burn them. Once in university, we had a heated debate among graduates on the subject, and I was trying to demonstrate that it's not illegal to download files for "testing" purposes if you then buy the original, just like with "shareware" software that you test for 30 days and then it self-restricts unless you crack it.

I'm sorry, littledaniele, I don't understand the reasoning: what logical criterion do you use to say that we must wait for the NEXT work to judge their current album? Are you making judgments with the benefit of hindsight? I'm sorry, but I can't find any rationality in your latest comment. Nothing and no one can chain my and your free will and free judgment. I don't think it's correct to condition the judgment of a contemporary work on a future one. I could only agree with the part where you say "before saying if they are dead," but in reality, this statement (that they are dead, ed.) is already very current since they have not only missed one album but three (in my opinion, the last three have been useless since Blood Sugar). also sprecht Mr_Iko
