Sting Symphonicities

Look, Masvidal, never confuse the concert with the record (you don't do it, but your extensive one could be a great review, and I believe a fair one, of the show... in my opinion very different from the album). I have seen Sting live I think 4 or 5 times, besides, of course, all the video recordings that have been released. Well: he is an incredible stage animal, he can't disappoint even if he tries. The problem isn't there. The problem is in the album, which comes out shockingly flatter than the live performance. Take the albums with the orchestra by Gabriel and Joni Mitchell and make that knowledge your own: that's what I would tell Sting if I could talk to him... but I'm sure of one thing: if he releases the live recording of this tour, it will be infinitely more beautiful. Dearest voodomiles: we agree on the analysis, although I wouldn't throw everything out the window... especially c'est beau, I like it a lot... but tastes differ... here I see not the best Count, but perhaps the best since the Renaissance...

@contemplation: I'm marked too... although unfortunately all of this will end up in the distressing mountain of words to read/listen to... (shitty work)...
@acqualife: first of all, thank you and return the kisses... yes, I have the feeling that the games are over, although, never like now, I would love to be proven wrong...: anyway, each nation, each people, reflects and expresses the culture they have, and looking at Italy today, it seems already miraculous that there is this jazz, let's say conservative and slightly out of sync.....

@kosmogabri: thank you, thank you, and thank you!! @odradek: Fresu is certainly as recognizable in sound as he is versatile in his projects. I have tons of his records, and some are, objectively, strikingly beautiful. He has said a lot objectively, and if he's now resting a bit on his laurels... well... Kisses (ugualepertutti.com)

@voodoomiles: I completely agree on the beauty of Rava's latest ECMs (which are, however, anything but new...or at least not new according to my concept.... Just as EST were (not are) one of the few new things from a few years back (let’s historicize...but...), while I don't join in the global exaltation of Spalding: she's good, perhaps even very good, but personally, I find her totally tedious...(obviously, this goes without saying, these are opinions). Kisses

@acqualife: thank you very much... however, we need to delve deeper into the matter... if the responsibility for this pleasant standstill lies with the "Italian musicians," then where, today (not yesterday), do you see the "non-standstill"? I'm struggling a bit... but, you know, there’s so much music that something always slips through the cracks... Really, I would truly love - I'm neither joking nor provoking, I'm being sincere - to hear something that I could ultimately define as "new." Kisses

I know I wanted to do something "slightly" (...) generic... trust me: the album is really beautiful, oscillating between unreleased tracks and classics... all played masterfully, with a minimalist/classical setup (piano, sax, trumpet of course, bass & drums)... I can't remember the tracklist in detail (I'm at the office... right now... and the album is at home).
It’s a work of atmosphere, never over the top, nor underwhelming, and it wouldn't be honest to consider it soulless, since it has soul to spare... the point, unfortunately or fortunately, is that we're now at the level of Grandissimo Artigianato, the kind that's hard to distinguish from Art...
