Ivano Fossati Live @ Auditorium Lingotto, Torino - 04.09.06

Very well, I see that the feelings are widely shared. We certainly miss the sad Fossati, there's no denying that, but we are just as happy for the existence of this old/young guitar player who embraces perhaps more DeGregorian/Guccini philosophies and carries around, splendidly, the never too lamented Cadavere del Cantautore.

Dear Nick, I'm not saying they're not good, and I'm not saying they're useless (I myself have joyfully played in several cover bands of manifest uselessness... so...) but I say that none, and I mean none of their covers has ever kept up with the originals, although they are certainly products of great enjoyment... let's make a comparison with wine, which is a field I like... let's say they are like nice, easy-drinking lambruscos, but they've never produced a single barbaresco... think about how much barolo there was in the cover renditions of Battiato's fleurs...

Thank you, Nick... the album is truly beautiful. The comparison with Chic stems from an indisputable fact for me...: among the many (a thousand and maybe more) souls of the prince, there is undoubtedly also the '70s disco, and... therefore... inevitably Chic (who, in their wonderful live show in Tokyo in '96, not by chance, chose Jill Jones as their lead vocalist....)

well...for me these are the ones who manage (quite the opposite of Mina or Coker) to make systematically inferior covers of the originals, with method and punctuality. but you know...I'm an old man...

young is beautiful. Steely is ugly and boring. who the hell are these old-timers (a term used just to make them understand) to be such a pain in the ass...?
Enzo Avitabile & Bottari No all'Inceneritore - Live @ Castello Baronale di Acerra (Na)
Voto:
instead of talking nonsense about anonymity or not (one should never be afraid to use a name, let alone a nickname... and that's that) why not enlighten each other about Avitabile, an artist I loved dearly in the '80s and of whom (guiltily?) I've completely lost track... is there new stuff, is it worth it...??? anyway, good review.
Franco Battiato Orizzonti Perduti
Voto:
Live there: thank you, really. I too don’t consider “L'Arca” a mere 2... just think that for years I considered it an ideal alter ego of “La Voce”... this “Orizzonti” is different, we must agree, it’s an ethereal record, homemade and probably little more than a rough draft, the product of genius at its peak. Moreover, I think this also holds for you, Battiato is one of those loves that never grows old with time.
Fusillo: yes, Bennato is the greatest musical disappointment of my life (ultrapersonal and public, obviously... in my micro I’ve had musicians who made me angrier and suffer more..., but, among what’s in the display windows of stores, Bennato is really the lost son, much more than Dalla or Daniele (who definitely come right after in terms of boiling over).
Iside: we should delve deeper into the Battiato/Battiato and Battiato/Sgalambro discussion...
Edoardo Bennato e Alex Britti Notte di mezz'estate
Voto:
So... it's clear that my judgment was musical (the fact that I personally may be a Lombrosian and that I don't even like Britti as a person is my own opinion, on which I wouldn't spend three lines). I say (trust me, I have been an ultra-passionate musician for almost thirty years, I have managed a music school and organized jazz concerts for a long time, in addition to a thousand other activities that I won't bore you by describing) that I can distinguish between technique and soul. Hendrix probably had less technique than Britti, and BB King certainly has it, just like Richards, but in music, as in everything else, it's the soul that matters. Here, however, we are judging musical souls, and nothing more. We just need to understand each other. Bye.

I heard her in Prince's live concert (undoubtedly, an official live released on DVD) and she seemed to me like a crooning screamer like many today... not that impressive, to be honest. Certainly talented... however... I know nothing about her latest albums, so I won't comment...
Edoardo Bennato e Alex Britti Notte di mezz'estate
Voto:
and who are you to determine who has a soul...? if I don't have the right to judge others' souls, then I have no right to say anything, and neither do you... instead, I believe that anyone can say whatever they want. to judge Bennato, for example, whatever you like, but I find you more credible if you know everything he has done. and if you know everything, I'm afraid this adventure can only horrify you... I have expressed my opinion on Britti many times, for me he is among the 3/4 who have destroyed Italian singer-songwriter music. my opinion, of course, very subjective, and if you want I can reason with a book... if you want...
