The Cars Greatest Hits
Voto:
I somewhat think like Dedoluz, maybe for purely emotional reasons. When I see that cover, I see my vinyl. In my opinion, however, the Cars deserve a re-evaluation. Of course, we’re not talking about phenomena...

This record should be re-evaluated philologically and listened to with new ears (after cutting away the old ones...)

By the way, Leonid. Are you letting Santa Claus in or is he going to freeze to death outside the door?
Actarus Atlas Ufo Robot

OOOOhhhh I love it when Leonid talks. Disenchantment in person. Leonid, what the hell is wrong with getting together around a cartoon??? Who do you think was reasoning about "the value of sacrifice and suffering"??? I watched that robot transform and I liked it because it sparked my imagination. That old man with that voice and potato-shaped head made me laugh. Actarus moved me. But those were childlike emotions without all the philosophical baggage. What you’re saying are the burdens that prevent us from enjoying anything, not even a simple childhood memory! Can we really rationalize and critique a cartoon??? Just because you hate sentimentality doesn’t mean you’re tough; it means you’ve become inert. Maybe it’s time to be sentimental like kids again. :-)

However, Grasshopper's reasoning is like a punch in the stomach for a little mouse (which I am not, just to be clear). The talk of a "commercial turnaround" makes me break out in hives. But, Grasshopper, do you think that De Gregori or, I don't know, Guccini make records solely for Art? For the love of Beauty? I believe they too clearly wanted and still want to sell their records. So what will this commercial turnaround be? Making records just to sell them, you might say. Well, I think De Gregori is worse than Zero. Let’s not forget that Zero fell into obscurity after the seventies for quite a few years. Something that didn’t happen to Baglioni, De Gregori, Dalla, or Venditti. I believe this is precisely because of his underlying roughness. To remain, however, true to himself. To that ambiguous, sparkling, and unconventional character. I don't believe this 1977 album is a commercial turnaround. It’s a successful album. I’ve seen plenty of commercial turnarounds in Italian singer-songwriter music in the eighties, and worse in the nineties.
