Scaruffi is one of the few (the only?) critics of the Beatles. Try going to ondarock.it, for example. Anyway, I agree with the ratings he gives to their albums. In my opinion, you cannot give a Beatles album a 9/10, which means masterpiece, because an album of songs (even if wonderful) can be a masterpiece in its genre, but not in general. If we give a 9/10 to a Beatles album, what should we give, I don't know, to a monument like Third by the Soft Machine? Oh my, but we're commenting on a review of ELP, why did we end up talking about the Beatles? :\ Ah yes, it's my fault for bringing up Scaruffi :D

"Given the immense length of the piece, which among other things confirms the value of the Beatles themselves" in the responses to readers' letters about the Beatles, Scaruffi explains the reason for the length of that entry.

Well, come on, find me another ranking where the top spots are occupied by Beefheart, Faust, Germano.. The usual suspects like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. are always in the top positions.

I don't think he's ever really listened to any ELP albums :D But have you read what he writes about Karn Evil 9?! rotfl

Yes, but with the ELP he really went overboard... 4 for Trilogy... a disgraceful rating... and then that "technically poor" lol... It seems strange to me that someone with his musical knowledge could write such absurd things. If they didn’t have technique, then who did?

Oh my God, look at this sadness, Scaruffi has dropped vertically.. The History of Rock Music. Nice: biography, discography, reviews, links among other things he defines ELP as "technically poor" :(((
