There’s worse. It’s stuffed with do-goodism and rhetoric like 80% of American movies, but if an Italian does it, then it’s not acceptable. It may be a crowd-pleaser made specifically to evoke emotions, but the idea that Benigni did it to please Cheney is simply absurd. It’s the height of conspiracy theories and overthinking to suggest something like that.

The only movie I've ever been able to stand of our two heroes. The other films make me feel sorry, but this one is truly fantastic; I've seen it 50 times (also because it airs on Rete4 about every 3 months... like Gone with the Wind on Raiuno and Top Gun on Italia1, just to give you an idea).
The absolute thing that has always made me crack up laughing is that during the final brawl, while various Terence, Bud, the Shy Guy, etc. are breaking the bones of at least twenty Mexicans each, there's Faina who grabs one and slaps him for at least 20 minutes. Every time I see that scene again, I can't help but laugh like an idiot for half an hour.
