Iron Maiden Dance Of Death

The Iron Maiden have changed... from a shocking, politically charged street band (against Thatcher) to increasingly highbrow and intellectual levels... they've even gone so far as to criticize Guns N' Roses for their reckless and wild behavior, which shows how much they have radically changed as they've grown musically... after a period of crisis, they are now here, living legends, and with everything they have represented, they can start to be definitively consecrated by bombarding us with DVDs and live performances, and continuing to hold concerts... it may be sad, but it's normal; like many bands, Iron Maiden have nothing more to add, and even if D.O.D. were the last album, there would be nothing wrong with that, in my opinion.

You also have to understand that, like all groups (see Metallica), they have been playing and releasing albums for twenty years, and the impression is that they can no longer innovate... I also don't think they will be able to replicate albums like The Number or Powerslave, milestones, because unfortunately they have nothing more to add to "their" creature (metal) other than good albums, played by skilled artists, but which no longer hold the historical significance they had in the '80s... being a fan does not mean not admitting one's own/one's idols' mistakes. Here everyone expresses their own opinion, and you can do the same.

But on the CD there are tracks recorded at different concerts (one different for each track)... it seems strange to me that you have a unique video of this entire concert so... anyway, maybe Bruce isn't tired, but you can't compare this performance to those of the 80s, or even to those of '92 (the year before)... Bruce has done better :)

No offense, this is coming from someone who, as you’ve seen, has nothing against d.o.d., but why are you getting so worked up? You’re in every negative review of Iron Maiden, and you keep insulting people for not thinking like you... "you don't understand anything about music, and you're an idiot..." Josh describes this album as repetitive... maybe he exaggerates, he's too harsh, but it’s undeniable that this album isn’t the peak of originality... why do you take every criticism of the band, even one as well-written as this, or the music, so personally? From how you react, it seems like it’s you who feels offended... no offense or malice, really :)

I wrote: "(...)dickinson is tired and apathetic(...) the rest of the band gives the same impression"... regarding dickinson, who delivers a performance absolutely not up to his fame, you agreed with me, it seems... about the rest of the band, I said that they give (to me, logically) the same impression. Anyway, I made a mistake in the review... dickinson didn't leave the band because of harris's prog ambitions, but rather because of the relentless conservatism of the maiden... a pretty big mistake then. Look, I am a fan of the band, I assure you. I also wrote another review on powerslave, in decidedly enthusiastic tones. But this live, along with x factor, no prayer, virtual 11 seems to me one of their worst works... that's all. Like everyone, as much as I regret it, even the iron maiden are not untouchable... without taking away from what they have given and what they have meant (and mean) for metal.

Thank goodness you're here to teach me modesty, huh? Anyway, it's not so much that you don't like my review; it's more about the fact that, according to you, if I don't share your opinion, I'm an idiot, etc. etc. If you disagree with what I've written or how I've written it, feel free to tell me, but don't call me an idiot; stop showing off your apparent superiority to everyone. You know, it just takes a little modesty, which seems to be lacking in you... really, aside from the fact that you call me an idiot or stupid just because I don't like this CD, you can criticize, but try to be more modest... and by the way, look at the serious reviews... let's see how many agree with you... how many ignorant idiots are there in the world, huh?

You didn't like the review? That's your problem. Did you enjoy the live show? That's your problem too. Can't you admit that Iron Maiden have made some mistakes? That's your problem. It's subjective, and I have nothing to say against it. I'll tell you, though, that I didn't like this live performance. Not so much because of the setlist (flawless) but due to production and execution. Anyway, since you know more than me, enlighten me with your immense knowledge; I couldn't ask for more. I'm not interested in competing with you, just in learning. Enlighten me, master. Oh, and I still haven't seen your enlightening review. Since you take the trouble to tell me I write poorly, take the trouble to show me how to write one. Go on, write it. Ah, about wasting time... since debaser is a crappy site, why did you even sign up? Hmm... no offense :)

Ah, by the way, I'm a fan of Maiden, I own all their albums, and I love metal. You see, I could say that you're an idiot, given that you don't grasp the abyssal difference between this live and Live After Death, but I won’t say it; that's your opinion. And I might say it also because it seems you didn’t understand a damn thing of what I wrote, or at least, you understood very little. Anyway, what you wrote isn’t called a review, but (surprise!!) a comment... perhaps you should keep your mouth shut, or at least not open it to spout nonsense. And given your remarkable knowledge in the Iron Maiden field, delight us with YOUR review (the one with the rating, at the top of the page, is easily recognizable since it's written in larger characters... got it?)

Watch out, the expert kid is here... so, when I said that Harris is a jerk? Never. I said that, generally speaking, when he handles the production (production, you know what it is? No, it’s not the lyrics, think a bit, not even the songwriting, but am I going too fast for you?), and not, for example, Martin Birch, great things never come about, like this live, or at least almost never memorable things. I said that Dickinson, among other things, didn’t agree with Harris’s prog ambitions, he wasn’t tired of the band. In any case, he certainly couldn’t have been too enthusiastic, considering the solo career he started while still in Maiden and continued after his departure. Harris is a genius, I don’t doubt that, and the first seven (eight counting Live After Death) albums are history, but he also has his flaws and has made his mistakes. His "contribution" was quite significant to Dickinson's departure, and if after Smith's exit the Iron were already in a bad place (No Prayer, rubbish, and Fear of the Dark, nice, but excluding the title track, Afraid to Shoot Strangers and Be Quick or Be Dead, nothing much) with Bruce's exit they fell to their lowest point. A brilliant idea to call Blaze when Kiske was available, just for the sake of his being English. And also having Blaze sing songs written for Bruce, absolutely genius, huh?
