I found this information: āLike A Bird Or Spirit, Not A Faceā is the realization of the great desire of Sainkho Namtchylak, the legendary voice of Tuva (with a repertoire of about ten albums and concerts all over the world), namely to meet and work with North African musicians. This was made possible quite fortuitously, thanks to the producer, multiple nominee and Grammy Award winner, Ian Brennan (TV on the Radio, Flea, Tinariwen, Lucinda Williams, Los Lobos, Nels Cline of Wilco, Bill Frisell, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Jonathan Richman, Richard Thompson).
The two scheduled a meeting with the rhythm section of Tinariwen in France, managing in a handful of intense days to write and record material even for a double album, leading to a magical encounter between two peoples rich in nomadic traditions, who, although coming from completely different continents, easily found inspiration in a common dialogue ground that is unique and representative of their musical, social, and cultural realities, both of which are protagonists in struggles for survival.
With the voice of the world's most famous throat singer at the helm of the project, the collaboration pushed beyond new boundaries, mixing atmospheres aimed at creating a singular and ethereal balance like none other, as demonstrated by the personal creative experience lived by the three artists involved.
Sung in Tuvan, Russian, and English, the music of āLike A Bird Or Spirit, Not A Faceā ranges from the punk-rock of the steppe to captivating repetitive and elongated sounds, also offering us ballads with an epic tone.
Mixed by Irish sound engineer David Odlum (Tinariwen, Frames), the sound reaches an unclassifiable, timeless place where quality transcends every identifiable genre. ----------------- on February 2nd, they were in Milan, in concert with musicians from Tinariwen, damn...
