...smile and suppress any jealousy of yours, in Lucia's bed....you never find fog, twilight, haze, in Lucia's bed....it magically cures your illness, in Lucia's bed...next year I'll take your aunt, in Lucia's bed. - Just for that "you never find fog, twilight, haze, in Lucia's bed," I love him.

I, on the other hand, completely disagree with Grass this time. It is precisely because of the absolute originality of Gaetano's work, the fact that he found an entirely personal register, and the naturalness with which he mixed very distant musics that he was ahead of a trend that would gain popularity years later. An absolutely intentional "minor" dimension. Also, for the decidedly non-dogmatic use of the lyrics, always fresh and surprising, with an irony that was never forced or sycophantic. And then there's the "dilation" of some tracks, in clear disregard of the commercial "rules." The abysmal distance from the trends of those years and a total autonomy in attitude, which first and foremost rejected the "intelligent" pose but was, in fact, a simple intelligence full of vitality. Far from being overrated. He never tried to conform to the market and would surely have matured tremendously, especially musically, because the years that followed were perfect for the development of his journey. The piece cited by Stoopid is just one (beautiful) example of his versatility.

Sainkho Namtchylak is a Mongolian singer from Tuva, with a "background" in improvised music to which, over the last 20 years, a world and para-pop production has been added (three reviews in DeB) - Kendra was the singer of Opal (no reviews in DeB, Happy Nightmare Baby album recommended) No, the top albums list is too serious a matter, come on. I wouldn't even know how to create it among the female voices of those I listened to in 2006, believe me. I've really never even thought in those terms, I'm sorry. But you don’t even mention those names. Although I'm sure you have them....

Ajeje, make sure to include Laura Nyro and Patti Smith; those two can’t be left out. I had major doubts about Germano (just like with Fraser) years ago and I’ve never listened to her carefully. But I need to check, after this outpouring of approval I see among the young DeUsers. In the end, that's part of the purpose too, right DeB?

Dear Ajeje, there’s no chance: no top ten, because it's impossible for me. Let's name a few, excluding jazz, R&B, Soul (old and nu, because in those "genres" there are way more than ten thrilling voices, and choosing one to exclude the other is a crime against oneself first of all). Among those ten names, the first ones that come to mind (not necessarily the best) certainly include Nico. Let’s add J. Joplin, J. Mitchell, some moments from M. Faithfull. The two "post paisley" Kendra Smith and Hope Sandoval. Then D. Galas, Sainkho N. (well, I can't resist, M. Monk). And, I’m not joking, Rita Pavone (I’m talking about the voice, obviously). I’ve forgotten dozens of names that I shouldn’t forget, I know, but I’m veeeeery distracted. If I had to instead take a look at all the records I’ve listened to and relistened to so far, and compile a reasoned top list, it would probably be very different. But that’s an undertaking I’ll reserve for a future of palm trees and warm breezes. That I will never have.. :) Yours, please.

Damn, the pictures! I can barely recognize you, in love, evocative, sentimental... and there’s even a little bit of whining. This is Champions League material: what happened to you, caught up in some interception? MEGAFUZZU ANYWAY.

Welcome back, doctor :) I had lost track of you after the end of R.H.P. and I didn't know about your solo career. I will look for this ghost, following your usually evocative and convincing page.

Well, I didn't see the attitude. And I haven’t seen her since, by the way, since we tried to exchange a few jokes in that review... You’re probably right, even though that <maybe> in your post seems unnecessary to me :)) - Is it really possible that honesty is always punished?
