But you're the one from Harold & Maude, so you have a super bonus: you must have had your good reasons for such dry frugality. P.S. You get 5 stars just for generating this quantity and quality of comments from pale blacks who have thrown themselves upon you and for the nonchalance with which you’ve taken this "nice haircut." I love how you said what you said and that what you said needed to be said. And it makes me smile a little that many, for obvious age-related reasons, arrive at those Roxy by retracing the path of the dandy, with the wonder that follows. But it makes me smile a little more to think that this concentration of style and allure, so impeccable that one might hypothesize aristocratic origins, is the son of a miner. Occasionally, over the years, while listening to the sinuous, glamorous alcove songs of his solo period, due to a mind that enjoys playing tricks on me, I have found myself thinking, instead of the usual lewd fantasies, about his father. - The album in question is fundamental (a term I believe I have used very rarely in comments on DeB).

I was sure that the story would be handled with care in your hands. That footnote made me smile: I imagined that the gray-bearded, decorated Odradek concealed an aged lady, and her story...
You perfectly captured the darkest side of Doroty/Billy's journey, evoking a movement of empathetic compassion in the literal sense of the term. And you did it with a scope and richness of references that I would not have been able to bring forth.
I confess that as I read you, I realized that when I first learned about the events, I was struck by another aspect of the story: I was amazed by Dorothy's tenacity and the incredible strength that allowed her to impose upon reality an incarnation of desire so irreducible. A sort of bright vision of the same tale, where the final revelation marked the victory of Dorothy/Billy by technical knock-out over the world.
A strangely "optimistic" vision for a perplexed pessimist like myself, but there you have it...
As I may have told you, I discovered the incredible story 23-24 years ago while attending a concert at the piers of the murazzi of The Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet, a powerful American female quartet, and after buying the CD, I learned about Billy Tipton and her life.
