let's say that pop is not my favorite word... ;) That bass is definitely there.... I'll tell you the Pixies are great for how influential they've been and for a style that is still unique! My personal opinion, though, for me, the real geniuses are other musicians! But that's just an opinion....

About the dynamics of the bass, I have some reservations... I don't know where you hear the piano forte contrasts... Black is certainly original, that said, it might not be to everyone's taste; it has a very unique style, wouldn’t you agree?
As for the rest, I agree, good analysis, at least in my opinion!

Lux, you are saying things I think too and that it seems I have said. I say pop vein, you say pop attitude... it seems we are on the same page! Now, starting from this assumption, I believe you can understand what I mean when I say that pop evokes standard, recognizable, and easily assimilable stylistic features... this seems obvious to me... now try to reread what I define as mannerist! I repeat: I am not saying that the Pixies are manneristic, I am just saying that in certain rhythmic dynamics they turn out to be! I think I have explained myself clearly, and pretty well... one last thing: when I say they are overrated, this is not a demerit for the group, it is a demerit for those idiots who have no sense of critical thinking... talking about technique in the Pixies, as if we were talking about Pastorius or Davis!!! Ok now I’ll stop because I wouldn't know what else to add, I don’t have the patience of easy!!!

Okay, we agree on the bass, so let's move on... is mannerism an absence of talent? Perhaps, but I said that in certain passages they are manneristic, and there's a big difference! Moreover, mannerism is not necessarily a lack of talent; keep in mind that it's anything but simple to reinterpret a genre in a personal way—I don't know many musicians capable of doing that! The intro to "Debaser" for you radiates childish expressiveness, and I believe that too, seasoned with that pop vein (which I don't like) that, like much of pop, recalls standard stylistic elements! The Pixies are very expressive and especially organic precisely because of that pop imprint (also given by that vibe some have described as 'skazzo...') that defines their style! However, as I've already written, pop does invoke standard, recognizable, and easily assimilable stylistic elements! Now I hope I've made myself clear... then it's up to you; my judgment is by no means negative!

No, look, thank goodness no one makes me a saint... Am I defending the DT? Look, I avoided voting because votes don't mean a damn thing, so for me, you can give as many 1s as you want, and even 5s to Viking metal!!! Actually, for Viking, there’s the option to vote 6, for the carnival costumes that make us have so much fun! I think Brie sucks too, and whether he is a failure or not, I don’t know; it's up to you to decide that at 16! You see, no one here contests the fact that you don’t like them; you might find them disgusting... I’m not crazy about them either, I just don’t understand how you can call Awake pretentious, showy, and inconclusive, and then listen to certain pretentious, showy, inconclusive rubbish, and I would add ridiculous, gaudy, and a bit pathetic? I don’t know, you're happy, so everyone’s happy... Viking metal is great!

You know what, the impact that Larry had on the team's play and in highlighting his teammates' qualities was unique... how I miss the old NBA...

Lux, I'm sorry, but the idea that mannerism goes hand in hand with baroque and that the redundant is your own claim... mannerism doesn't have a specific reference; even the simplest chord progression can be (in fact, often is) manneristic. Let me explain myself better: in some passages of Doolittle there are clearly SKA influences, but the Pixies are not SKA, and to rhythmically reinterpret a genre that is already quite uniform in its structures, one must have a theoretical background that the Pixies lack. You wouldn’t dare tell me that the Pixies' ska hints sound original: they insert SKA rhythmic passages and they can do it, but in the most banal form... I think I've been clear! And I hope you don't misunderstand what I'm saying. The value of the band is not in question.

Don, I’ve already read it and I must say it’s splendid, really! You’ve shared a lot of good stuff here too, but I can confidently say that this is fantastic... it might affect me in a certain way because it reminds me of the times when I idolized Larry and went crazy for the Celtics (and I was only about 10-11 years old, if I’m not mistaken)!! Absolutely great!
Ps: I think exactly like you about Bird... if he had played in a less grueling and definitely easier conference (a well-known fact, if his back hadn’t tormented him, he would have won even more!!! Now and always N.1
I give you a vote (after all, it goes to the J.D.)
