surely it’s easier for anyone to attribute a piece "à la R.E.M." rather than the other way around, also because they were qualitatively superior, and definitely much less referential and far more imaginative in their compositions...Great band...but now I see them better on that beach (I, at least, could see myself better there...)!

A reductive thread in the sense that it's not enough to just increase the distortion volumes and consequently sound like a sort of heavy southern! Zakk has added his guitar style, arranging things halfway between the two genres; in fact, if you pay attention, the groove of the Pride is truly remarkable! As for Monster Magnet, I think the point stands... even though, in my opinion, they go far beyond Hawkwind!

Rik, my comment was the classic nonsense thrown out there, but with a purpose: if you’re looking for feedback and distortion, you better look elsewhere! I named the first two people that came to mind, simply... I don't agree on Monster, see Don for the reasons! As for their unique and unimitable style, not at all, sorry... what do they have that’s unimitable? Nothing, they just wrote great songs for a certain period... but I don’t see anything stylistically unique! Regarding MM and P&G, the discussion is definitely grounded and sensible, perhaps a bit reductive...

that no one has ever cared, I meant to say... if you want numb ears, feedback and distortions, maybe you'll find them somewhere else...

Grant, isn't it better than Monster Magnet or Pride N' Glory, which nobody cared about?

I agree with Don and I'll add a note of bitterness: they've truly worn us out! I never expected innovation or originality from them, but when their compositions also decline, it means it's better to be billionaires on a beach with a daiquiri in hand than to look like U2 (just to name one)!!!

Lux, still here? And listen to Kyuss, they really have nothing to do with craftsmanship!
