Everything is beautiful, but Spectrum as "avant-garde disco" and "the evolution of a process started by Miles Davis"? No, thank you. I listened to Spectrum even as a kid; it took me much longer to understand what "that" Miles Davis was trying to do or say.

Sure, if you want to compare it to someone like Lucio Dalla or pick a random singer, then it's avant-garde. But if you mention Miles Davis from that period or the Weather Report in the same sentence, then the term avant-garde becomes much more colossal, and Spectrum stays small (even though it remains a fantastic album; it's not like if it's not avant-garde it's crap—who cares if it's avant-garde or not).

For example, there are Gene Krupa records from 15 years earlier and some even older that go much further than Spectrum. And I mean many, not just one or two, like 20.

At that time, there were online brawls about these (and other) things; the young people (of that time) called it Post-HC because it was a new genre for young people. The Medi said it was either Stoner or Sludge, while the old-timers said it was Doom.
