Mike Patton & Rahzel live in Roma @ Circolo degli Artisti 02-09-2004

Well done, Luciano. I enjoyed reading your review. Indeed, there is no religion that invites you to play like those two geniuses, in a place without technical support. And if the acoustics are terrible, you shouldn't even hold concerts in such a venue, Patton or no Patton. At most, you let local bands play there for some healthy experience. Patton lives for sound; sound is his most important working tool, and it's wrong to consider this aspect as a secondary thing. Sound is the thing that needs the most care, regardless of talent and showmanship. If the sound doesn't work, if the system is garbage, nobody brings out something spectacular, nobody. Anyway, it seems to me that the concert was interesting in part (let's say during the ecstatic moments of Patton), and I won't comment on his rude behavior (it's known that he has a fiery temperament). The initial part was very interesting, Rome like Lugano, huh? :) Bye.

Guys, I apologize in advance for the ramble I'm about to unload on you... but I also had in mind to do a review of this album. Well done Mush, your review is very nice, it's a perfect snapshot, I like it. Gallo doesn’t have much talent as a musician, although he’s often been compared to Chet Baker for some small resemblances. And Vincent isn’t even this immense director; he does better as an actor. But one thing is for sure, and no one can take this away from him: he is a great expert in music (for years he worked as a music critic in American magazines) and a big collector of sound recording equipment. Since he was a child, when his father gave him the first Revox, Vincent has traveled the world recording everything he could. I mean, someone would pass gas and he’d be there recording it. Sound and recording are his obsession. Cinema and acting are aimed at earning money that allows him to satisfy this obsession; he has stated this many times. Among his closest friends are people like Steve Albini, with whom he exchanges equipment, and his home (mansion) on Mulholland Drive is stuffed (I mean, to the ceiling) with recording devices and similar things, as well as records (thousands of vinyls). I've seen the photos, it’s an impressive sight! He is a great collector of vintage machinery; just imagine that when he was with Kusturica in the desert filming Arizona Dream, Vincent managed to earn three times more than Johnny Depp (the film's protagonist) because during breaks in filming he hustled around all the farms in the area selling Japanese stereos and bringing home rare vintage turntables that he later resold to collectors at high prices. I won’t discuss his political preferences (very right-wing), but I tell you this to say that this album should be listened to from a different perspective; it’s the sound, not the content, that matters here... and Vincent, due to this obsession with music and sound, is someone I find quite likable...

Koopa, you explained yourself well, and I think Hal understands perfectly too. It’s a game. Some take it like a scale quaranta, others like a quiz show, and some like a chess match. This review seems to me like a big chessboard, with some contenders trying to checkmate at all costs. I don’t see it as initiation, but as your first game, and there will be more, rest assured. Allow me a piece of advice: click on the names of the others so you can see how they move on debaser (through their reviews and comments). Only then will you understand who you’re dealing with (always in a virtual sense, of course). But perhaps you’ve already done that, and you’ve already figured it out...

If I were to take a trip through musical America, Nashville would be a must-stop! Great suggestion, Hal, it's a name I've always heard of but never listened to. I’ll give this album a listen as soon as I can. :))
