"Let's also consider that your nights are troubled by guilt for a father who was a pilot and died in war...". This is a very interesting point. You know, Bogus, that in post-war England (the one in which Waters was a child) it was a custom in many English schools, on the day of commemoration for those who died during World War II, to have children bring in a photo of their father for a memorial ceremony? And in the typical English style, this became an opportunity for the school system and the government to dramatically instill a sense of guilt like "hora et labora, your father (brother, uncle, cousin) died for you...". It’s not evident for us to fully understand the meaning of the slogan "we don't need another brick in the wall" (or rather: ui don nid anotha bric in de uah, as sung by the children in the thick dialect of the working-class suburbs). We understand it in an abstract way (the Berlin Wall, the wall of loneliness, the wall of indifference, etc.), but we cannot grasp the "physical" wall that the English had right before their eyes at that time. However, to conclude, those who did not attend an English school during the 60s-70s-80s in England cannot truly understand this record. The English educational system was (and is) one of the most authoritarian in the world, in some cases shamelessly against children's rights. The famous cartoon supporting the track seems a caricature to us, but to the English, it was anything but; rather, that was their reality.---- the film... the scene from Comfortably Numb? Nothing could be more piercing and painful for a country devastated by heroin and Thatcherite nihilism... that razor blade in Bob Geldof's hand is the same blade that all the punks of the time wore around their necks, and it was in the hands of goths during their self-harm performances...
Eugenio Finardi Anima Blues

Even Finardi! Good, that's a nice name. I've always found him likable, also because he's an intelligent person, and if I'm not mistaken he was also a drug addict for a period, which made him very human (meaning someone who can make mistakes that a person might commit in life, therefore someone who has "lived"). I don't know this album, but I know Sugo and Diesel.... :)) welcome Ilario!

Bogus, do you know what it means to be English and live in the full Thatcher era? The Wall has thrust a sword into the heart of every Briton, believe me, from punks to bankers. In Great Britain, there are hundreds of thousands of English (and Scottish, Irish, Welsh, etc.) who have identified with it; it's a story made for them. And it's an annoying album (not for me) for this reason, because to “feel it” for the “continentals” isn’t obvious, and so one limits themselves to the music...

Guevo, explain this thing about exclamation points better... Can you point me to a website where I can read the texts? I'm interested. Reading it, emphasizing as indicated by your exclamation points, it feels very much like "step right up, it's showtime!"... is that the intended meaning? I'm asking without any polemic, okay? :)

Well, after repeated listens, I can say that between this and the new one by Alec Empire... it’s 7 to 4 for Alec... (7 good tracks against 4 good ones). Why compare with the crap that's out there (FF and company)? Compare with people at the same level. The latest Killing Joke for example (10 to 4)... now let’s see the new Ministry, how it will turn out, it’s coming out at the end of June (even though last year’s was so-so)... I read the story about the packaging. Well, what paranoia, huh? It really gets to me because there’s no booklet. And what’s with this story about visual creativity and all that crap, but to enjoy the manifesto that Trent says to download, I need a computer and a printer that can handle it. Dear Trent, I don’t like this situation, I already pay for the CD and now I also have to print your booklet, no way I'm doing that!
Edoardo Bennato Non farti cadere le braccia

I like Bennato, this and "Burattino senza fili" are among my favorite albums, which I listened to a lot when they were released. My dream is to someday see a review of Venditti’s "Sotto il segno dei pesci" on Debaser (I hate Venditti, I only save this album, which is a gem) and something about Rino Gaetano... and even about Concato or Vecchioni. I was already pleased with the review on Graziani, and all those on Dalla... (even though I don’t comment, I read all the reviews on Italian artists). In short, I'm glad that -finally- there are people here on Debaser who know how to give the right value to "certain" Italian music :)))) (ps I checked, I have the vinyl, but the one of 'Orrizonti'. Sob)
