When I was selling Odra records, I specialized in South American music, during that time when it was full of, um, “tourist” Dominican and Cuban women here. It sold well, and so I was able to listen to a slew of artists: the Dominican merengueros Juan Luis Guerra, Kinito Mendez, Fernando Villalona, Tono Rosario, and then the lineup of salsa musicians, Arsenio Rodriguez, Tito Puente, Tito Rodríguez, Johnny Pacheco, Willie Colon, Celia Cruz, Ruben Blades, Eddie Palmieri... it’s not really my genre, yet I found some beautiful things in it. (p.s.: if I were to be reborn, I would attend a dance school...)

Film: how many times have I cried with this movie!!! Debra Winger, a great actress who messed up her reputation with An Officer and a Gentleman. Comments: Nofake in Russia, though. Nick, I thought of you today.

Yes, Ghemi, listen to it. It's a beautiful 360° journey through South American genres, Brazilian, Cuban, Dominican - mambo, charanga, samba, merengue, salsa, and mocambo - performed with style and respect. Byrne's "white" voice feels a bit disorienting, but perhaps that's the charm of the album. At its core, there's the idea of carnival (Rei Momo is a Brazilian carnival figure), and the stories told here speak of various "masks" and surreal figures, which can also be found in everyday life, not just in South America... A sort of puppet theater, in short, with Byrne as the puppeteer. Part of this album served as the soundtrack to a documentary by Byrne about candomblé, which later evolved into a complete album.

(gossip: and today she’s doing well, dedicating herself to her daughters, and she has a new love, an Italian-American with an unlikely name straight out of a 1940s gangster movie :)

don't worry, some of my friends got the Costner part. It's just that nobody showed up at the funeral. No You Can't Get What You Want in the background. Which friendship has failed the most? Theirs – which AT LEAST they confront and challenge each other – or ours that doesn’t even care anymore? It's all very sad.

Damn, I'm buying it today! The most representative of her in terms of vocal ability is "Fire On Babylon," and in terms of emotional intensity, it's "I Love You John"... imho
