It's a striking and hypnotic image. I didn't know about this doubt between wife/daughter. I always thought it was a couple, and behind them I imagine throngs of sad children and skinny cows. Strengthening this impression is the triangular shape of the roof placed exactly in the middle of the picture, behind the couple, almost echoing sacred paintings. American sacred family. Also the pitchfork, held like a cross (the pitchfork: a cross with two arms curved upward). The review is interesting.
