Portishead Roseland NYC Live

Beth Gibbons' album is titled "Out Of Season," and it’s a fascinating work that has little in common with Portishead. You must have confused it with R.E.M. I get it; I also mix up titles sometimes. She co-wrote it with Rustin Man (a.k.a. Paul Webb), former bassist of Talk Talk. And while we're at it, I wonder what happened to Mark Hollis. But why do these musicians disappear into thin air? Well, if they have nothing left to say, that’s better than insisting like some old relics.

Thanks Target. Maybe it hasn’t been exactly ten years (their second album is from '97), but at least five or six years have gone by with rumors of a hypothetical third album. It’s not a rule, but such long waits are rarely rewarded with satisfactory results. Moreover, it must be added that if they don’t change course, the genre has already run its course. Time will tell.

But does anyone know what happened to Portishead? A few years ago, it seemed like a new album was on the way. Have they disappeared? For me, immense.
Simple Minds Street Fighting Years
Voto:
After the disappointing "Once Upon A Time," this was announced as the album of rebirth and indeed some tracks make an impact, while others are a bit less memorable. I remember buying the EP Ballad Of The Streets and later on those two tracks (or three, I can't quite recall) I found exactly the same on the 33 RPM record. So I bought (and paid for) them twice. In my opinion, and according to many, this is Jim Kerr's last noteworthy work.

But whatever the SM do, for you, is a masterpiece?
Simple Minds Real Life

Mediocre album. Brief review from a fan (5 stars ?!?!?). But come on!
Simple Minds Sparkle In The Rain

When Simple Minds had a reason to exist. Unfortunately, they keep releasing albums... unfortunately.

As soon as possible, I will take care of the purchase. I hope that the process of growth and change that started with Melody... is continuing in the right direction. From what I read, it seems so. And rightly as you say, the early fans will definitely drift away. But who cares!
Lucio Battisti E Già
Voto:
A record that at the time was not understood and, as far as I can tell, still isn’t much today. I believe it was a courageous record. Not beautiful, but indeed courageous. It was a real break with the artistic past. I understand and remember that this work caught everyone off guard a bit, but to say that "Una giornata uggiosa" is a beautiful record honestly leaves me rather bewildered. Artistically, Battisti was dying, and we must at least recognize the strength and courage he showed in seeking new paths. And for this reason, I don’t feel I can reject it.

Perhaps it’s not a step forward compared to the previous one, but I can’t say it's a step back either. It's a nice reaffirmation. If we’re always expecting a masterpiece, then it might happen that we’re a bit disappointed sometimes. Ultimately, it’s an excellent album of melodic pop where perhaps the standout track is missing, but I also don’t feel any drops in tension. If only there were more albums like this.
