THE REVIEW

Four years after "Real Life" and now reduced to a duo (Kerr and Burchill), the Simple Minds return to the music scene with "Good News From The Next World", that is, the album you don't expect.
The duo is surrounded by great session men: Marcus Miller (bass) and Vinnie Colaiuta (drums). Keith Forsey, who wrote the famous "Don't You Forget About Me" for the Simple Minds, is called back for production.
The album is explosive both for Burchill's gritty guitar and for the powerful rhythm.
It starts with "She's A River", a classic rock; then it continues with "Night Music", a simple yet very refined rock piece with a truly remarkable initial bass run; and then the wonderful and sensual "Hypnotised", where Kerr sings with immense depth; the power is unleashed again with "Great Leap Forward" and "7 Deadly Sins"; "And The Band Played On", reminiscent of "When Two Worlds Collide," the last song on "Real Life," features a penetrating rhythm, the riffing guitar in the chorus, and Kerr's voice to create a structure that is powerful and light at the same time; "My Life" is characterized, aside from the guitar, by some distortions on Kerr's voice and by the warm and full bass line; the album closes with "Criminal World" and "This Time", two beautiful tracks with a metropolitan flavor the first and a gospel taste the second.
