Maxïmo Park Our Earthly Pleasures

I don't know why, but I really love this album. Short, immediate, punchy songs, and also a bit jittery, but deep down they have a soul. It was a beautiful discovery that will lead me to explore their debut album, which I had ignored. Compared to them, the Strokes or Franz Ferdinand (just to name two hyped bands that have received a lot of acclaim) pale in comparison to Maximo Park. It's a matter of taste, but for me, this is a great record, and I find it strange that the reviewer, who is very attentive to British rock, only gave it three stars.

Sure, vitalogy, I read between the lines. I just wanted to reiterate it. Ultimately, the album is good, but that's where it ends. Wilco just can't seem to excite me.

They can't fully convince me. Sometimes they mimic Rod Stewart; just listen to track number 8 (I think) to believe it.

Oh my God! If ArnoldLayne/DaveJonGilmour finds out that you buy these ridiculous musical guides, I think he might even suffer from a pre-syncope, not to mention cutting you off completely. And on top of that, you also copy the reviews. Oh My God! And looking at what you’ve reviewed, I suppose you’ve drawn from other sources too. "I cento dischi ideali per capire il rock" by Ezio Guaitamacchi is indeed quite pathetic. Well, tastes are tastes, but there are some real horrors in there that would make your skin crawl. Does Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf suffice? And even this one by the Eagles among the hundred ideal rock albums? Come on…

I like this album. Not to die for, but I like it. And it's true that they echo certain Coldplay, who at least in their debut were commendable. Of course, there are better bands, but just as obviously, there are much worse ones. One randomly, the Keane. Another randomly, the Travis.

I hope so. However, I think that if they were to really come back, I’m not sure how much the so-called trip-hop still has a reason to exist nowadays. We'll see.

In reality, they would have made two albums. This one, plus the subsequent self-titled one from 1997. Additionally, they released a live album. Officially, they have never disbanded, and there has been talk of a mythical third album for an eternity. At this point, I think they will never release it. Beth Gibbons recorded a captivating solo album a few years ago, co-written with Rustin Man (a.k.a. Paul Webb, former bassist of Talk Talk), but it has little to do with the atmospheres of this record. This, for me, is a masterpiece.
Tom Petty Highway Companion

Another forgotten figure, and not just on debaser. I also admit that I've lost track of him since the decent Wildflowers. However, I've always found Tom Petty likable. As for the review: I've always found track-by-track breakdowns unappetizing as well as not very explanatory.

Hi Kosmo! To my dismay, I see that no one has listened to this album. I deduce that few have appreciated the debut which, at least for me, sounded formidable. And when someone touches my soul, I always hope they can do it a second time. Only a few manage to do that!
