Sure, KSM's question is valid... but I don’t know what to think. The first album definitely had moments of brilliance, while R.O.F. has fewer, or maybe it’s just less engaging… The truth is, I wanted to go to the concert to see if they "are there" live... from the reviews, it seems like they are, and that’s enough.

No.. my mental categories are all-encompassing :P...
I like Verdena, but if they had sensible lyrics, I might like them less °_°.
De Andrè obviously belongs in the first category because his songs are (beautiful) poetry.
I can't stand Battiato, just him as a living being (?), so I can't appreciate him... sure, if he offered me a well-paid job, permanent contract, 14 monthly payments... I would change my mind about him and his music :P

I liked this album, not excessively, but I liked it... then, dealing with some die-hard fans (the kind that would hang a cast iron ashtray around their necks if Manuel Agnelli had touched it) started to get on my nerves. Maybe in the future I'll revisit it and like it again (even though I have to admit that every now and then I secretly listen to Dea, one of the most beautiful tracks the AH have ever made).

Ah, the Italy vs. abroad question... I can only appreciate Italian music if the lyrics are particularly beautiful, while a foreign track can appeal to me even on the first listen without paying attention to the words (otherwise, you can't explain the success of Mongoloid by Devo :-D). Anyway, I like Italian music when 1) the lyrics aren't ridiculous, or 2) the lyrics are excessively ridiculous and kitschy. P.S.: nice acting :P
Black Sabbath Vol. 4
Voto:
Yes... definitely too much :). As for the last two... well... they're certainly below the previous production, but Technical Ecstasy contains some beautiful songs like You Won't Change Me and She's Gone, while Never Say Die definitely reflects the band's chaotic phase: drug and alcohol abuse, constant fights... in short, the four of them were really not in the right mindset, and you can feel it in the album. It's a real shame, especially since from here on starts the decline in quality (imho), even though R.J. Dio gives it his all (and they make a few nice albums, like Dehumanizer, but there's no comparison) the real Sabbath are others. I would give a 5 to all from Paranoid to Sabotage, while for the first self-titled one, the rating would be an impossible 6 out of 5.

Ok, I am a convinced Sabbath fan, so for me the rating for the album could only be 5. I give the rec a 4 because, although well-crafted, it leaves out some definitely noteworthy tracks: St. Vitus Dance and Under the Sun are little gems in their production while Laguna Sunrise is a masterpiece of "softly sad" sound... In this album, all 4 Sabs are in outstanding form, although it's true that Ozzy's vocal grandeur will reach its peak in the next Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Too celebratory? Yes, I admit it :-P

The Darkness Permission To Land

stunning video, fantastic look, brilliantly retro spirit, and then there's the face of the singer (a mix of Johnny Rotten, Michael Monroe, Axl Rose, and Pippo Franco) that’s simply endearing. I have a soft spot for these guys, but the album gets tiring in the long run.
