Here's the review of the much-anticipated concert by the American band visiting Rome for the first time...
Tickets bought well in advance (even though the Palacisalfa was not that full), we arrived at the Palacisalfa around 8 and took our seats just a few meters from the stage, among the front rows. An almost stressful wait, spent between one 'K' and another, finally comes the moment of the Strokes. The curiosity is great, will their songs translate well live?
Well, the answer is positive, in fact, the songs come across much better live than on the CD, especially those from the latest album, which on the disc left me a bit perplexed but live are much more effective. My friend and I experience it all from the front rows, singing until our voices gave out, moshing whenever the songs allowed, enjoying one solo after another, sweating like dogs... until the concert ends; a bit puzzled, we were hoping for an encore, but there was nothing of the sort.
Conclusion: we waited two hours for a one-hour concert. A bit short, I'd say!!!! Honestly, I expected they would manage to do at least an hour and a half, despite the very brief duration of their songs. At least they played perfectly, without missing a note... almost too professional, indeed.
There are two ratings I have to give, and the final one will be an average of those two... the first is a rating for the personal significance of the concert, and it's the highest, since I had been waiting for it too long and enjoyed it to the fullest.
The other is an objective rating of the concert, adequate but nothing more, a 3.
I tried to be as objective as possible and hope I achieved that to the best, one last negative note concerning the Palacisalfa... the acoustics were decidedly poor, and this certainly did not aid the listening of the songs.
