Another point: the difference between deBaser and other music sites. First of all, deB has a multitude of viewpoints that serious (sosti) sites wouldn't even dream of. And above all, here we are more or less all amateurs and we don’t review for a living (maybe some do, have done, or will do): so it’s like chatting among friends, there’s no point in being presumptuous. Everyone can recommend or discourage as they please, and then can always be civilly applauded or criticized in turn (the important thing is to always be civil and polite). We're not here to write absolute truths: we're here to talk about our passion. Amen.

As for the discussion between review and literature, it is quite complex and involves some serious philosophical discourse that I do not intend to tackle hic et nunc (due to lack of time, space, and preparation).

"Sometimes all it takes is music; sometimes, when you 'see' something else or when you lack the right resources/skills to exclusively talk about music, it can also be nice to meander and discuss something else as well, as a side note..." (your previously cited comment). Nowadays, it seems almost safer to earn high marks with impressionistic or provocative reviews than with purely technical/critical ones (which I find more challenging, because you have to be very careful to write sensible things). Being able to blend the two categories would be fantastic, but certainly not easy.

Nice review, David. I wonder why all Bowie fans also have a little crush on our Beck... I don't know the album, but after a while Mr. Hansen tires me. His pastiche is often monotonous, by me. Nevertheless, he's a great artist.
