For me, this is the pinnacle of Genesis, followed by The Lamb and A Trick of the Tail. If you want, I can explain the reasons behind this ranking.
Gentle Giant Acquiring the taste
Voto:
Jurrien, the ones you mentioned are the best tracks on the platter in my opinion....
However, I must say that the balance, the clarity, and at the same time the formal complexity achieved in this album and in the aforementioned songs will not be reached again except occasionally ("The advent of panurge" Three Friends).
We will lean heavily towards a technical and hyper-baroque approach that will lead the sound toward overly convoluted and, ultimately, tiresome directions for my tastes. This is why I prefer the first triad over the second.
P.S. A "later" album that contains some gems, for example "Memories of old days," is "The Missing Piece," which is often unjustly underrated.

Beautiful, but there's no comparison with Second Life Syndrome, a true masterpiece of the Band and constantly fluctuating on Progarchives from the 20th to the 30th absolute position of all prog worldwide throughout time... and you have to believe it... if this is anything to go by, what will the next full album be like??
Oceansize Everyone Into Position
Voto:
Guys, Oceansize are fantastic. The interplay of the three guitars in a melodic-harmonic sense is sensational. Their sense of melody and creativity in songwriting is exceptional. I'm going against the tide... for me, there's no comparison with Amplifier.. Oceansize are way better. Effloresce is more prog while this one is more "pop," but all the tracks are memorable with the highlight of the second-to-last one (I can't remember the name right now)... trust me.. give them a listen...

The Vote that I regularly forget
Le Orme Verità Nascoste
Voto:
I share the reviewer’s judgment of excellence. "Verità nascoste" is perhaps my favorite album by Le Orme. Or rather, in purely progressive terms, the palm goes to "Felona e Sorona," but on a level that is a bit more mediated by pop (both domestic and otherwise), it’s hard to find anything better than "Verità Nascoste." All the songs are beautiful, inspired, and with magnificent lyrics, connected by a golden thread that amalgamates them into an almost concept album. The theme is precisely that of drugs, or rather their pervasiveness in the lives of the youth back then. In this sense, "Regina al Trubadour" and the dramatic finale "Il gradino più stretto del cielo" are particularly illustrative, where Le Orme seem to warn their generation about the dangers of the narcotic turn in the substance trend. The open-minded, lysergic crystals and kaleidoscopes were being overtaken by the far more sinister availability of heroin and the horizon of death that has always accompanied it.

Great review. I've rarely read anything about Genesis that's so accurate and intelligent. I share the criticisms about the production; however, you didn't mention the true masterpiece of the album (along with "the waiting," it’s obvious), namely "Can Utility and the Coastliners."

Guys, it’s still Salmacis... what a dazzlement I had with this album... giving it only four stars was a crime against majesty... it’s too beautiful.. and also "Bid You Farewell" how beautiful it is... I apologize... anyway, the real highlight of the platter is and remains the first two tracks, I was not wrong about this... the usually underrated Nektar (but not by me, never) is a melodic and powerful piece in equal measure as only they know how to do. B.R.I. is A GREAT TRACK BUT, I REITERATE, IT COULD HAVE TURNED OUT BETTER, IF ONLY THE VARIOUS SECTIONS WERE MORE LINKED TOGETHER. I would like them to redo it in light of the balance and "finesse" achieved with "Blackwater Park". I look forward to a reinterpretation, perhaps live, I believe it would be the new Supper's Ready, just like "The Drapery Falls" is the new "The Fountain of Salmacis". I don’t know why but I ALWAYS GET THE COMPARISON BETWEEN THE GENESIS OF THE GABRIEL PERIOD AND OPETH.

I apologize for my ignorance, but I don't see much resemblance between At the Gates and D.T., while I do see it between D.T. and In Flames. The fact is that the At the Gates of the masterpiece "Slaughter of the Soul" don't seem very melodic to me. In that case, I would refer to it as Death Metal simpliciter, unlike the two bands in question.

Great album, in my opinion the best release of melodic death metal. Gripping and emotional.
