I could never manage to appreciate them even though a strange force made me buy all their albums up to White Pony... but shortly after I always got tired of them... then I saw them more than a year ago with A Perfect Circle as the opening act... maybe it was because, indeed, the APC played first... but they made me feel sad live... that chubby guy.

There will always be someone better. But it's pointless to fight over these topics. Because out of sheer antipathy, one loses touch with reality and spouts utter nonsense. There are millions of amazing drummers... Colaiuta, Bozzio... and you could make a list as long as the phone book... but if you fill your mouth with crap like Chad Smith is better than Portnoy... (what does funk have to do with prog? I wonder if you think or just write on impulse???) Anyway, the Dream are decent, but they need to put in more effort. Especially in soul, in my opinion. They have the tools to become something more... but they remain too show-off. For example, I listen to Banco del Mutuo Soccorso... they have ego trips that go on for miles... but they evoke feelings... at least, I find them warmer... but this is purely subjective. Have a great day everyone.

easycure, you're trying too hard to be cool. Whether they suck or not, you compare Portnoy to drummers who have nothing to do with it. You're off-road and even arrogant. Like it or not, whether I like it or not, Portnoy crushes the vast majority of drummers of our generation (sticking to prog... you then mention drummers who have nothing to do with it. It's like saying that Hammet is better than Santana... what the hell does that have to do with anything?). And if it wasn't clear, I think Dream Theater sucks.

TO ME JEFF, GOD REST HIS SOUL, IS A BIT OF A PAIN IN THE ASS. AND A REVIEW LIKE THAT WORKS JUST FINE FOR AN ALBUM I CONSIDER ONE OF THE MOST OVERRATED OF MY GENERATION!

If you hate progressive, well, stay away from this record. Really challenging.
It's one of those albums you should have if you're a lover of the genre, for the historical value it embodies... but it's anything but catchy! In short, it's hard to get excited or to approach progressive music starting from here... In my opinion, it’s an album that can only be appreciated after having listened to a lot of other prog... a bit like Trout Mask Replica by Beefheart... it’s a cornerstone for the new solutions it proposes, not for catchy melodies, etc.... let's say it’s prog of prog.
