THE REVIEW

The year is 1995 when from Sacramento emerges onto the crossover scene (ah yes, at the time there was nothing "nu") a band called Deftones, all Skate and fury to scream out.

The album opens with Bored, a classic among classics, and you can immediately tell that this band has its own soul and style: breaks, pauses, and a very personal song structure. Hypnotic melodies go hand in hand with the chants sung by Chino, only to explode into furious "stop & go" moments that are their trademark. This is precisely the characteristic of Deftones, who manage not to take for granted the enveloping plots they weave, which then lead into tight riffs and screamed breaks (which in the future will be somewhat limited). Adrenaline, like Korn the previous year, has the merit of initiating a new way of conceiving the Crossover of that era, and subsequently developing it with emocore influences becoming apparent. In this debut lie tracks that are the seed of this style: Bored,Engine #9, Nosebleed, 7 Words, Bicorn.

It's hard to find a flaw, not even the raw production which, on the contrary, adds atmosphere. A grand debut, the starting point, the first of a series of masterpieces...
