At this point, then, you need to change the Latin title of your review: tot capita, una sententia. :-)

I love this album. "Loving each other a bit is like drinking, it's easier to breathe..."

It's not easy to write good pop, and the same goes for rock; but considering, as some do, the lack of originality as the main flaw of those who try, frankly makes me smile a bit. We need, at least I do, new songs, from which we can't expect to be "something never heard before," when in this field, as in the novel for certain aspects, everything or almost has been attempted. We ask them, instead, to entertain us, to spark some small-great emotion, to let us hum something while we shave or take a shower, to "solve them," meaning to understand why the hell we like them so much.
The Hal are not the new Lennon/McCartney; it seems neither Hornby nor I wanted to say that. But sometimes the attitude that is a bit too harsh towards the maligned pop could cause us to miss the chance to discover them.
As for the Hal, they seem very similar to Nonna Papera's cake: a homemade dessert known to all, but that few can manage to bake properly. :-)

Hal, you naughty one, you got to it before me; of course, I would have mentioned you in my review. Well, as often happens, it will be up to me to take a stand in favor of pop craftsmanship. I must say that contrary to my esteemed colleague :-), these Hals have convinced me. I thank the fiery Swiss for giving me the chance to listen to them. For my review, I would have used the following quote from Hornby as a supporting piece:
"According to some, pop music, like the novel, has an ideal form. In the case of pop, it's the three or four-minute song composed of verse/chorus/verse. And if that's the case, then we must learn the critical language that allows us to discern the good from the bad, the banal from the clever, the fresh from the stale. Standing still waiting for the next punk movement is like telling songwriters that their work is worthless. The next Lennons and McCartneys are probably already among us, it's just that they will never be greater than Jesus. At most they will churn out songs like 'Norwegian Wood' and 'Hey Jude,' and that may be enough for me." I completely agree with this sentence that closes the sixteenth song of the famous 31, "Smooke" by Ben Fold, and it would certainly serve as a good omen for several of the Hals' songs.

You know I prefer "Pirates," but she really is good. The review, as usual, is well-crafted and flawless.

But no! I wrote "a void," not "a gap"... alright then; but the heat is starting to be felt. :-)
