That scientifically poetic Darwinian image (or poetically scientific, you decide), of the Moon pulling the little sea creatures towards it as if they were confetti, seemed fitting to describe the magical realism that underlies these passages. I'm glad you share my perhaps somewhat bold comparison.

I support Odra's request for the return of the friend. By the way, Delpy in "Before Sunrise" (a film I watch at least once a year... I haven't had the courage to see the sequel: how is it?) is very close to my ideal woman.
